Re: Has anyone ever thought of creating a fire alarm museum?

TFP user Firefly owns (or has owned) just about every fire alarm known to this community. The thread has been deleted, but the remains are located here. He had about seven plywood boards full of devices mounted on backboxes. Sorry for the double post, but I ran out of time to edit my original post....

So the RSS in the stairway (when I meant "exposed stairwell" I meant you could see it through a glass wall) is actually an E70! I'm surprised since it's a fire station and they aren't very big though.
Could be a CH-70.

Re: Pull stations should not be used as light switches.

Even if a pull station is rated for the appropriate current/voltage, most lack an earth connection (ground screw) which could cause a fire under the right circumstances (i.e. lightning strike, internal device failure/short circuit).

Re: Quiet hospital fire alarm

I would check out this article. Also see this presentation on private mode signaling. From what I can understand, the alarms can be quiet for a few reasons. First, in operating rooms, a loud fire alarm can startle a surgeon. Also, there is no need to notify the occupants since most of them are incap...

Re: What is your favorite electronic horn sound?

I voted for the Edwards Integrity because it sounds like a mechanical horn. I'm not a big fan of the 892's tone for some reason.

Re: why do we have to do fire drills once a month

I don't remember where I read it, but I think one of the reasons is as follows. By doing fire drills very frequently, occupants become accustomed to it, to the point where when the alarm sounds, they will automatically assume that it is a fire drill instead of an actual fire. That way, if there is a...

Re: What tones would you prefer for voice evac?

One of my favorite voice evacuation messages is this one: QHXLsTrrHwY I believe it's a custom message, judging by the click when the message ends. I wish all evac messages sounded like this. It's very concise and the speech is clear. I don't remember who it was but someone on this board recorded the...

Now I really want to go out and see a sign that has a failure like that. LOL

Here's a 5721B:
Wow, thank you! I've seen this panel in a couple of buildings but never knew the model number. The only things I knew about it were its modular design and the "signals timed out" lamp.

Fun fact: one of the systems that had this panel exclusively used ADT-branded BG-10s. Weird.

Not withstanding my idiotic contributions to this thread three years ago, I now use a 90s Lenovo keyboard. It has a buckling spring keyboard like the IBM Model M or the Wheelwriter.

Re: Daily Fire Alarm Question!

What is the history of the "WHEN BELL RINGS DIAL 911" compliance signs? Was this because old fire alarm systems lacked the ability to dial 911 on their own due to limited technology? What dictates the use of such sign? Is there some sort of safety code surrounding this that mandates their use? I ha...

Re: Simplex 4903 NAs being replaced at local supermarket.

OMG this is so similar to the situation at school. Some -9846/9105s that got directly replaced by the Siemens speaker/strobes have a visible rectangle on the left side. I believe it’s dust. It sounds like they painted the wall at some point and painted around the device. The rectangle would be the ...

To add onto what Nick said: If you plan on pursuing an electrical/computer engineering degree (computer engineering is not the same as computer science) you HAVE to brush up on your calculus skills. Calculus is an integral part of engineering. If you didn't take AP Calc in high school you should con...
