Re: General Questions

Just to clarify: Installations like this are not a result of "Big Blue" directly. There are "Authorized A*T Dealers" that are basically small independent companies who sell and install systems monitored by Big Blue. Tyco Fire and Security spun off their A*T and their security now is Tyco Integrated ...

Re: General Questions

If the armed light is on and the program light is flashing, you're in dealer program mode. Press # to exit now. Do not try to do anything in dealer programming yet. You have a DSC Powerseries panel. It's probably the pc1864, their largest one in the series. Look on the green sticker on the board. Yo...

Re: Fire Alarm Questions

based on NFPA or ADA as required:

- panel smoke must be within 20-25 feet of the panel.
- pull stations must be within 5 feet of an egress door.
- 110 cd strobes for ADA

Re: What is a good power source for a Simplex 4050?

check the internet or your yellow pages for a local electrical or electronics shop (as I doubt Radio Shack - if you still have them - will be any help) for something. Typically, places like that have sales staff who are actually knowledgeable. All Electronics used to have a good selection of hobbyis...

Re: Some Mini Horns

I still have three or four PA400s, three white and one red. they're a great choice for a low-current security system sounder. One is still installed in my hallway ceiling, but the wiring was abandoned at my Vista-20P panel when I added the Wave2 siren.

Re: Hardwiring Questions

This is another reason I would really recommend using a residential fire/security panel for this purpose (Vista-20P, DSC Powerseries, Napco, etc). Plug the transformer into an existing receptacle and you're done. Run 18/2 FPL cable to the panel. No need to modify or touch any existing 110VAC wiring....

Re: Four-wire NA's on Ademco panels

however, honestly, I'd either use an FB panel with 2-wire A/Vs on bell 2, and a standard 747/Wave 2 siren on bell 1. program all your burglary devices to trip bell 1, program all the fire zones to trip bell 2.

you could also use a voice siren driver on a 20p panel.

Re: Four-wire NA's on Ademco panels

If you're using an FB panel, one bell output will be for burglary and the other for fire (programmed per zone in #93 menu mode). you can't program one bell output to be (for instance) steady for burglary and pulsed for fire like the smaller Vista panels do. for a small Vista panel like a 20SE or 20P...

Re: Unimode 10

you'll have to disable the dialer, I know it can be done on an MS-5012 and I'd imagine it's the same or similar on that. I remember programming one of those and needing A*T's installer code for it. The phone line monitor looks for 48V central office voltage. I've managed to temporarily "fool" panels...

Re: Resetting the EEPROM on a Silent Knight 5204

a panel default won't fix that problem.

there is a way but I forget. that's an obsolete panel, it's probably not worth fixing.

Re: fire extinguishers

I have a basement full of them. water, water mist, a few halon, one or two CO2, a nice old General 5-pound CO2 from 1952. The water extinguishers are fun, they're easily recharged by filling with tap water and pressurizing with a standard air compressor. Great for campfires, or water fights with the...

Re: New Code.

This is where NFPA clarifies the wordage, referring to a house as a "single-family dwelling". Although (for instance), local codes may have a smoke detector ordinance requiring detectors in all bedrooms and on all floors, they can't actually enforce it. They wouldn't be going into people's homes (si...

Re: Commercial Fire Alarms in Houses

it's in NFPA, but like everything else, this is simply a recommended practice. It's up to the local city or town. it's becoming more widespread, but still not where it should be. there is a LOT of backlash from contractors. It's not a simple once-and-done thing. and even still, do you think these sp...

Re: New Code.

there is nothing that says you can't use any type of horn over another. UL, NFPA, BOCA, etc, all play a part. these aren't meant to tailor to the preferences of the people in the building. Remote control via IP has been brought up in a product demo for Honeywell Totalconnect, which is available for ...
