Re: Changes in Fire Evac Protocols in Michigan

this is a terrible idea. we haven't lost a student to a school fire since... the 50s? 60s maybe? we have an outstanding record, largely in part to practiced and well executed quick evacuations. going back on that is just waiting for another massive disaster like the "our lady of the angels" fire. pe...

Re: New System Sensor addressable smoke and heat detectors

What is that new UL rule requiring? I work with ULC stuff so usually we don't get changes in codes until after the U.S. has. I've noticed it's been harder to find conventional smoke detectors that are one piece. We were ordering the Edwards ESLs when they stopped them, now we use the System Sensor ...

Re: New System Sensor addressable smoke and heat detectors

The new UL will effectively end every current smoke detector out there.

We'll see lots of new models in the next year or two, and anything else will no longer be manufactured... lots of fire alarm upgrades in the near future.

Re: Power Supply Trip Via NAC : UL 864 9th Edition

i've only ever used power supplies with separate trouble contacts. you can route the circuit through the activation inputs on all NAC panels, and then route it back through the trouble contacts. easy as pie. or route the circuit through the activation inputs on all the NAC panels, and stick a monito...

Why would his station be done? Don't sprinklers activate when the glass breaks or the soldier melts due to the extreme heat?
testing, maintenance, expansion... sprinkler system is off, pull station is needed to activate fire alarm by the sprinkler guy if something happens.

Re: School Shooting

What do you mean they don't respond? Like they have a reed switch and don't respond or just don't have a reed switch? like lots of modern addressable smoke detectors don't have a mag test option, there's no reed switch. Mag tests only test the electronics, they don't test if the detector can actual...

I meant on the smoke/heat detector.
might depend on the system but most commercial detectors i've seen don't have test switches like household smokes do.

Re: School Shooting

Even if manual activation was removed, the shooter could still activate a detector by the test switch or a match, or a sprinkler. There are just too many loopholes. test switches don't actually do anything, and by using matches you've hit on a very important yet critically under discussed topic... ...

Re: School Shooting

why bluepoint? any FA system can take a lockdown pullstation and initiate a lockdown sequence. leverage a life safety system already in place.
