Why would his station be done? Don't sprinklers activate when the glass breaks or the soldier melts due to the extreme heat?
testing, maintenance, expansion... sprinkler system is off, pull station is needed to activate fire alarm by the sprinkler guy if something happens.

Re: School Shooting

What do you mean they don't respond? Like they have a reed switch and don't respond or just don't have a reed switch? like lots of modern addressable smoke detectors don't have a mag test option, there's no reed switch. Mag tests only test the electronics, they don't test if the detector can actual...

I meant on the smoke/heat detector.
might depend on the system but most commercial detectors i've seen don't have test switches like household smokes do.

Re: School Shooting

Even if manual activation was removed, the shooter could still activate a detector by the test switch or a match, or a sprinkler. There are just too many loopholes. test switches don't actually do anything, and by using matches you've hit on a very important yet critically under discussed topic... ...

Re: School Shooting

why bluepoint? any FA system can take a lockdown pullstation and initiate a lockdown sequence. leverage a life safety system already in place.

Re: Are buildings with fire alarm systems not required to have pull stations if they are fully sprinklered?

What about if a building has smoke or heat detectors but no sprinklers? Does the building still need to have pull stations? Aren't pull stations leftovers from a time when automatic detection devices weren't commonly used with fire alarm systems and they had to be activated manually? Pulls are stil...

Re: Are buildings with fire alarm systems not required to have pull stations if they are fully sprinklered?

Really no need for smokes throughout or pull stations at all, which is why they've been eliminated. Full smoke coverage hasn't been required in sprinkled buildings since the 90s. But heat detectors aren't life safety devices right? They'll only trip if a fire gets hot enough and high enough to reac...

Re: Are buildings with fire alarm systems not required to have pull stations if they are fully sprinklered?

pull stations are responsible for the majority of false alarms, and evacuating a large building can cause lots of injuries. Smokes aren't needed if sprinklers are installed because the sprinkler heads act as the detection, as soon as they melt and water starts flowing, the fire alarm is activated. R...

Re: Are buildings with fire alarm systems not required to have pull stations if they are fully sprinklered?

Depends on the occupancy, but generally, no. Under the latest codes most fully sprinkled buildings don't require pull stations. (except for a single pull station by the FACP or some other area for testing purposes). Some AHJ's require them anyways, but for the most part we don't put in pull stations...

Re: After what happened yesterday, my questions remain about traditional FA systems and our response to them.

and if an explosion sets off the shot detector?

fires are way more prevalent than mass shootings and should take much higher priority. the problem has already been solved with the newer codes basically removing pull stations.

Re: Siemens MXL

An authorized dealer or Siemens themselves can get into any system with owner authorization sent to the factory and program it. Requires special licensed software you wouldn't be able to get your hands on personally. But yes, the system is discontinued but still maintained and supported for a little...

Re: BluePoint police alarms

a modern fire alarm can do everything the bluepoint thing can, but much cheaper since the system is already in place.
