Re: Commercial fire alarm system over wifi

Also, if you want to give us some more details of the fried system, please do! Would love to hear what it was, what are the existing field devices, etc.. That'll help us point you in the best direction.

You can take pictures if you are unsure of model numbers.

Re: Commercial fire alarm system over wifi

If it's WiFi, then that's going to be a no go. If it's Wireless, such as Fire-Lite's SWIFT technology ( http://www.firelite.com/en-us/Pages/Category.aspx?cat=HLS-FIRELITE&category=Wireless%20Fire%20Alarm%20Solution ) that would probably be okay, but may require AHJ (fire department) approval. Best t...

Re: Smoke Dampers

No, motorized fsd's. Motorized can be tied to either a specific smoke detector (using conventional relays or addressable mapping depending on the system) or can activate on a general fire alarm event. Sometimes too, they are tied to relay basis on 120VAC local smoke detectors, rather than as part o...

Re: I WAS TOLD NO FIRE ALARM SYSTEM WILL PINPOINT EXACT FIRE LOCATION, IS IT TRUE?

So, I'm a bit confused by your post, but it sounds like you're looking for an addressable system ( http://firealarmtech.net/wiki/panels/intelligent ), and through Monitoring, are looking for something such as Contact ID? Quote from http://firealarmtech.net/wiki/monitoring/pots : An extra benefit of ...

Re: Adding Mass Notification to old, mixture of systems.

Mine is the campus mentioned above, I’m not looking to have them network panels if it’s not necessary, but at least have other forms of mass communication throughout the campus. Leaning towards Alertus as it integrates with our current system. As for the temporal 3, I’d normally agree but the contin...

Adding Mass Notification to old, mixture of systems.

Alright, I'm frustrated. I've mentioned this before but I'll say it again: I'm a full time student who works in FA over summers/winters. At my college campus, a good sized city campus, the "powers that be" have a mixture of literally any misc. type of system installed. Edwards, Notifier, Siemens, Ga...

Re: Fire, Inclement Weather, Lockdown, and Other Disaster Prevention Drills for the 2018-2019 School Year

But surely the school must do fire drills on their own right? I mean it is a college which is a school so they have to do fire drills. The RA said we don’t have drills. Some jurisdictions allow for unplanned alarm events, as HenBasket is familiar with, to count as a "drill." This is not the case ev...

Re: Fire, Inclement Weather, Lockdown, and Other Disaster Prevention Drills for the 2018-2019 School Year

Ok guys. Apparently during a really severe storm burst yesterday, someone told me that there was a lightning siren going off at my school. The siren is located at the school’s stadium on one of those commentator rooms at the top of the bleachers. Dunno what model number it is but it’s most likely F...

I'm still waiting for somebody to be in a dorm that has an actual HORN in it. LOL
I remember seeing an old video of something like that somewhere. I'll see if I can find it!

Re: Revert the forum theme

For the longest time, I was going to suggest a feature where a user can mark individual topics as read. Don't know about anyone else here, but there are quite a few topics that I really don't care about. Sure, I could just open the new topic in a new tab and then close it immediately (and/or go thr...

I opened the MCP to move Synther's intro post to the correct forum and thread and something needs more work. See attached screen shot.

Re: Revert the forum theme

This is weird... Normally there's a drop-down to change which theme you're using, if it's not here Maybe a config file somewhere (last time I tinkered with Phpbb that was like... Something as long as the Chinese wall) must be disabling it. You’re right, but this theme works a little differently. We...

Re: Revert the forum theme

Because editing posts apparently no-longer exists, ill just make a new post. There isnt a "mark forums read" button. Just another reason to do away with the new theme... I can say wholeheartedly that regardless of themes, the ability to edit or delete posts has been limited. I recall sometime withi...
