Re: Kevtistic's Alarm/Bell/Detector Collection

https://i.imgur.com/tiD23p2.jpg The Olson SW-415 electronic bell is my latest device to enter the collection. The packaging promotes a number of uses and settings for the bell. https://i.imgur.com/kDA1mTo.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Ra1hWEw.jpg Unlike several of my collection pieces, this bell, cosmeti...

Re: Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

I have a new update for Livonia's Webster Elementary School. It has been about four years since I visited the school, and during that time, the alarm system was replaced as part of the Livonia Public Schools' 2013 bond proposal. All of the rebranded Faraday NAs and 641 pull stations from the 1990s a...

Re: Lesser Known Fire Alarm Panel/Device Companies

National Time & Signal Corporation is not widely known outside of the State of Michigan, where the company is headquartered. They used to manufacture their own NAs and pull stations, but they now re-brand those from Gentex and Sigcom, respectively. However, they do still manufacture their own panels.

Re: Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

OfficeMax (Farmington Hills) There was only one device of any kind I saw inside the store, and it was a Wheelock 7002T-24 horn/strobe in the northwest corner. Outside, however (in the same corner), there's a second 7002T-24 next to a System Sensor MASS-series horn/strobe (ADA version); the latter d...

BigKayCea's Alarm Collection Videos

All of the following videos in this inaugural post are sound clips from five devices in my collection. As I hope to get access to a power supply and various accessories to test my alarms over the next several months, I will post more videos here. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/fyh5hwHIGMU - Edwards 340 vib...

Re: What alarm do you have at work/school

I have a new update which sheds a little light on some of the original 1960s alarm devices at my workplace. While having a holiday party in a conference room on a dedicated event hall floor, I noticed a flush-mount Simplex plate on the ceiling (the one with the grid pattern for the sound opening); u...

Re: What alarm do you have at work/school

Earlier this month, I made the decision to switch jobs, and I am now working at a different medical facility in a different city. The facility consists of a series of interconnecting buildings (with the first opening during the 1960s) and most of the devices are 1990s-era Simplex models at the oldes...

Re: Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

Ascension Providence Hospital, Novi Campus (Novi) - Similar to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, this facility (opened in 2008) was built with an existing outpatient center (circa late 1980s - early 1990s) on the site. The only difference is that there is a corridor that connects the hospital wi...

Re: Who wears ear protection when setting off fire alarms?

I do like setting off alarms in my collection if they can be run on household batteries or if they were wired to plug into a wall socket. I use a pair of wired computer headphones to protect my hearing during tests, but I would purchase dedicated noise-cancelling headphones for added safety. Based o...
