Re: Have you ever seen a pull station mounted high up?

I was in a skyscraper once, and there were pull stations on the top floor. In all seriousness, I can't remember the last time I saw a high pull station. But I know that Tunxis still has trim plates left over from when their chevrons and T-bars were mounted higher up. Also, would a normal-height pers...

Re: Weatherproof

I think what they're trying to say is that the direction of causality was reversed in your statement. An alarm needs to be weatherproof to be mounted safely outside, but mounting an alarm outside doesn't make it weatherproof. If you mounted a GX-90 outside on a normal backbox, it wouldn't be weather...

Re: At what point did you stop becoming afraid of the fire alarm?

Here's a complicated answer. My fear went away for the most part once I got to elementary school. Since there were no horns in the classrooms, we'd just hear them echoing in the hallways. It wouldn't get loud until the teacher opened the door. The exception was that I dreaded fire drills during gym....

Disconnect power before servicing

I've been wondering... When techs are working on the fire alarm system, do they just shut off the breaker, or do they power the panel down entirely? What are the proper procedures?

Re: 4007ES power supply

Hmm - my power supply has that white plastic caging over it. I'll try to get a photo either today or tomorrow.

Re: 4007ES power supply

If there's supposed to be a terminal block, maybe I got sold a lemon. Kcin - is there any way you could provide photos of the connector that the terminal block uses?

4007ES power supply

I recently acquired a 4007ES. I read the installation manual, but it's not clear on exactly how to connect the wires to the transformer. Is there a special connector I need?

Re: Fire Drill at Tunxis - 2019

I wouldn't say majority because of how big the new building is (and the fact that it has three floors), but there are a LOT of 6120's and -9838's.

Re: Name That Fire Alarm! (2.0)

Further research shows the horn to be a DB1 from Wheelock. The strobe might be of the XB12 series.

You can even make out what looks to be the old Wheelock logo in the lower right-hand corner.

Re: Name That Fire Alarm! (2.0)

I'm guessing it's one of those hazardous area Wheelock signals, then.

Was that in the US? And does anyone actually know the answer? Because that actually looks pretty cool (and really loud).
