Re: Simplex 4005, 4009 System Questions and Advice Needed

Hi Everyone, Quick update. I am in a combination of disappointment and shock right now. This system was very special to me because I have been a student in this school district for 4 years. I know the ins and outs of every fire alarm system in every building in our district, whether that building is...

Re: Simplex 4005, 4009 System Questions and Advice Needed

Turns out Friday is the last day of the year for school. Wouldn't know since us Seniors got out on the 13th and we graduated on the 19th. So, I am hoping to get a response from district maintenance at that time to get both the access codes and confirmation they've taken care of monitoring as far as ...

Re: Simplex 4005, 4009 System Questions and Advice Needed

The first two cards are 4 point IDC cards. The third card is a 4 point NAC/relay card. Those three cards come with the panel as standard equipment. The fourth card looks like an 8 point I/O card. It can drive relays or annunciator lamps. It can also accept contact inputs. Each point can be programm...

Re: Simplex 4005, 4009 System Questions and Advice Needed

Here are pictures of the inside of the panel (not mine): Could anyone tell me what all the cards on the right are? I know one of them looks like a NAC Relay Card with what I can see in the manual here. Auction item preview is a week from tomorrow, so on that date I will try and get into the boiler/m...

Re: Simplex 4005, 4009 System Questions and Advice Needed

Power down should be in this order: remove positive battery terminal, shut off AC power, remove negative battery terminal. Negative battery should always be the last connection removed and the first connection at power up. There is no external programming software for a 4005. All the smarts are in ...

Simplex 4005, 4009 System Questions and Advice Needed

Hey everyone, A local elementary school which was constructed in 1921 and was expanded in 1953 is being torn down near the end of June or in early July. With that being said, my local school district is auctioning off everything (yes, everything) in the building. I am bidding on the fire alarm syste...

Re: Faraday 6020 (the 9833) and Space Age light plates

Has anybody ever heard of a 6020 horn (the 9833 when rebranded by Simplex) being paired with a Space Age Electronics AV32 or AV34 light plate? Just curious because I know that there are examples of the 6120/9838 being used with them. Wooster High School in Wooster, Ohio has a ton of them on an old ...

Re: Fire, Inclement Weather, Lockdown, and Other Disaster Prevention Drills for the 2018-2019 School Year

If you are able to, see if you can go around the school and catch the different pitches of the alarms. I’ll try. I also confirmed that we do in fact use the manual evacuation feature. An elementary school in the district that is being demolished in June (built 1921) has a 4005 System with same alar...

Re: Fire, Inclement Weather, Lockdown, and Other Disaster Prevention Drills for the 2018-2019 School Year

We had a fire drill at 10:22 AM EDT. Nothing else to report, some seniors chose to skip school today so evacuation was much faster than normal with the ~50 or so students missing. I did catch activation this time. Principal said go ahead over the radio (we use Mortorola UHF radios of some sort; dist...

Re: My Absence: No, I'm Not Dead....

Felt like reposting instead of making a new topic. Well, I feel like sharing with you all something I thought I never would: I’ve pretty much moved on from fire alarm stuff. It’s still interesting and all, and yes I still have my system and mess around with it from time to time, but I just haven’t h...

Re: Fire, Inclement Weather, Lockdown, and Other Disaster Prevention Drills for the 2018-2019 School Year

February 14, 2019 @ 8:03 AM EST We had a boiler burst/leak that caused severe water damage to several classrooms and offices and this was the test that would have determined whether or not any fire alarm system components were damaged by water. While the boiler room flooded as a result of the leak,...

Re: Fire, Inclement Weather, Lockdown, and Other Disaster Prevention Drills for the 2018-2019 School Year

Not really sure if this is counted as a drill or really anything, but my school had this safety awareness day where the goal was to explain lockdown procedures to every single class. I knew this earlier but it gives more conclusion that the blue Wheelock strobes flash during school lockdowns. One o...

Re: Fire, Inclement Weather, Lockdown, and Other Disaster Prevention Drills for the 2018-2019 School Year

They’d have to be really loud to startle you? Is the classroom door always open and right outside is a horn? Yeah we keep the doors open since they’re always locked anyways, that way in a lockdown all we have to do is pull the magnet (that keeps the ones with door closers on them to where they can ...

Just curious. Are there any alarms actually located INSIDE any classrooms? Or are they just out in the hallways?
Just in the hallways.
