Re: Audible Sillence...

One advantage that audible silence while keeping the strobes flashing had, is that people would be sure to reset the panel and not forget about it.

Re: Are there system smoke detectors that have built-in alar

I know of a store at the local mall that has smoke detectors by the elevator (one on both floors) with built-in sounders. I don't know what brand they are though.

Re: Are there system smoke detectors that have built-in alar

The only smoke detectors that would normally be required are above the FACP and elevator lobbies if they had an elevator. They wouldn't need smoke detectors throughout the store if they are fully sprinklered. In fact, the only initiating devices you would see at the ceiling would be duct detectors ...

Re: Did you ever used to believe that NAs detected smoke?

I used to think that fire drills were done using a pull station. I know it's like that at some schools, but I believed my school was like that. I thought the opposite. I remember at my school, they had an Edwards 6500, with a fire drill switch on it. I thought they used that to sound the alarms, bu...

Re: Are there system smoke detectors that have built-in alar

Does it look something like this: 7000-Series_0.png Depends on the model, the Gentex like this can have a built in relay that could be connected to the fire alarm panel. Not normally done that way, especially on a commercial installation. You usually see these in residential buildings, typically th...

I'm sure you were out of there in no time!
Only the bathrooms in the cafeteria had a Wheelock 7004t. All the rest of the bathrooms had no NA in them.

Are there system smoke detectors that have built-in alarms?

My local Walmart has a Gentex smoke detector in the back by the restrooms that looks like it has a built-in alarm. Do some system smoke detectors have built-in alarms? Or is it just a stand alone detector not connected to the fire alarm system?

Re: Did you ever used to believe that NAs detected smoke?

My elementary school didn't have any remote strobes. They had Wheelock 7004t horn/strobes. The bathrooms either had a Wheelock 7004t or no NA.

I used to think that fire drills were done using a pull station. I know it's like that at some schools, but I believed my school was like that.

Did you ever used to believe that NAs detected smoke?

When I was in elementary school, I believe that the NAs at the school detected smoke, and that the actual smoke detectors weren't connected to the fire alarm system, but were just like household ones, detecting smoke and sounding an alarm from the detector itself.

Re: You Know You Like Fire Alarms When (2.0)

You go into a building just to see the alarms.

You know that the sprinklers won't activate when the alarm goes off.

You know that NAs don't detect smoke.

Re: Hotel tricked to pull fire alarm and smash window

I heard about a case years ago, where there was someone calling a hotel claiming to be from the fire alarm company telling the woman there to activate the fire alarm system, which she did. They then told her to pull it back up and that would stop the fire alarm. She tried to do so and she couldn't. ...
