Re: What alarm do you have at work/school

I have been singing professionally with a church choir in my area for just over a month now, and we had a fire alarm test last week during and after rehearsal, so here's the system. The church is one large building made up of four distinct structures, all of which were recently connected to form th...

Re: Notifier and EST vs. Silent Knight for three 9-story tower complex

Looking to replace a Siemens conventional system with a new addressable system (from Notifier, Silent Knight, or others) in a complex of three 9-story apartment towers which stand over an underground parking garage. Each tower would have its own panel which we'd connect to the main central tower (t...

Re: Semi-Districtwide Upgrade in my local School System...

Hi All! I know this is a major topic bump, but the district-wide upgrades are pretty much complete. All of the smaller schools with addressable Honeywell or EST systems now have Siemens Cerberus PRO FC922 fire alarm systems. The larger schools with addressable Honeywell or EST now have Siemens FireF...

Re: Siemens rebranding EST equipment

Siemens AG purchased both Cerberus Pyrotronics and Faraday in 1996-1997 to form the Siemens Life Safety branch. This predates the EST3 by around 5-7 years. As for Landis & Gyr, one of the larger hospitals in my state (High Point Regional Medical Center) has a HUGE Honeywell system (EST3) with Landis ...

Re: Siemens MXL first boards problems

It could be a failure in/of the ALD-2I card, which is the card that allows the I-Series addressable loops to interface with the MXL. I would see about just replacing that card first, and see if it resolves the issue. If you do decide to replace the panel, the Siemens FireFinder XLS has a set of card...

Re: New System Sensor addressable smoke and heat detectors

I wonder if System Sensor will release new conventional smoke detectors or if those will just be discontinued. They probably will. Honeywell's own security panels (ADEMCO Vista, etc.) and many others support, in some cases exclusively, the System Sensor i3 detectors. Also, most conventional fire al...

Re: PA announcements mentioning the fire alarm.

My elementary schools always did two drills the first week of school, one the very first day of school, and one usually towards the end of the week (I believe this is a NC requirement for elementary schools). The first was always announced in a manner such as (actual wording varies): "Teachers, plea...

Re: The "Mysterious" 2901-9838!

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that Faraday took care of the labeling of Simplex's devices. As we know, Faraday switched to that horn mechanism around 1994 when the ADA strobe mandates went into effect. At this point, Simplex had just released their 4900 Series plastic-body signals and nome...

Re: Semi-Districtwide Upgrade in my local School System...

You should try to get your hands on some of that old equipment. Some of it sounds really cool/interesting. As of now, most of the interesting (conventional system) stuff is staying in place as they're only replacing the control panels. The devices in the systems that are being completely overhauled...

Semi-Districtwide Upgrade in my local School System...

So... I just found out yesterday that all of the existing Honeywell-conglomerate and EST fire alarm systems in my school district will be replaced by Siemens systems by the end of August 2018, and the mass upgrade is already underway. All of the existing Cerberus Pyrotronics, Siemens, and Simplex sy...

Re: My second house fire in 3 months.

Okay... I debated on whether or not to post this reply, but here we go... I agree 100% that these lights are a legitimate fire hazard. I applaud the installation of LED bulbs to help prevent "owner error" fires, but (unless they've been rewired) the wiring here is 93 YEARS OLD. Any wiring of that ag...

Re: Favorite pull station?

From a practicality standpoint, my votes go to the Simplex T-Bars (4251/2099/4099), the RSG RMS T-Bars with their SigCom equivalents, and the Cerberus Pyrotronics/Siemens MS-151/MS-157. All are durable, reliable, and incredibly simple to operate and reset. From a collector/enthusiast perspective, my...

Re: Siemens discontinues the Faraday brand

I have to admit, I thought that the Faraday brand was already folded into Siemens when I heard this. I guess now it really is. The Faraday panels have been gone for a while now. Also, if you click the Downloads tab on the Siemens Fire Safety site, you can access all of the data sheets for their cur...
