Re: System Sensor L-Series

I've seen the ceiling-mount PC2RL and SCRL models recently in a local church building. They have a Simplex 4002 (I think) which is still in service along with a 4600-Series annunciator, 4251-20 pulls and whiffle ball smokes. The PC2RLs went in to replace the inadequate older signals, which were spar...

Re: Name That Fire Alarm! (2.0)

Wait. Its synced to the other alarms in the building? What other alarms are in there? Genesis speaker-strobes and some older version of the Wheelock speaker-strobes (the one with the frosted "FIRE" lens). I'm not sure if they would be using a sync module though or if the EST panel already comes wit...

Re: AIP?

The Simplex-Autocall comparison sure sounds plausible. Given the rather generic name (Alarm Industry Products), I wonder if it is a similar situation to Faraday's FOS/Faraday Outsourced) series products? It seems like it would be roughly the same time frame (late 1980's - early 1990's) and could ha...

Re: AIP?

I can't help but wonder if this AIP-Edwards situation isn't the exact same kind of thing as the current Simplex-Autocall structure. I've seen several small 1980s-era (maybe as new as early 1990s) AIP-branded systems, but any systems requiring more than 3-4 zones and a handful of notification devices...

Re: Name That Fire Alarm! (2.0)

Does anyone know what this one is? I know it's a System Sensor, but I remember it not being a MASS. It's a speaker strobe if that helps. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/323846606753497089/383299998009393162/IMG_4EFA1D0C4643-1.jpeg This is a System Sensor V400R-24XXADA (I can't tell what th...

Re: Differences between the Cerberus Pyrotronics XL3, IXL, INS-2, MXL, MXL-IQ and Gamewell IdentiFire Flex 500, INS-2

I worked at Cerberus-Pyrotronics branch from 1990-1996 and I remember INS2 systems were installed in all of the Old Navy stores until the IXL came out. INS2 systems were also installed in First of America banks. Gamewell held a 2 day training seminar at a hotel at Detroit Metro Airport in 1992? Old...

Simplex 4004/4005/4006 vs. Edwards FireShield

Hi All, I'm currently considering buying my first panel and have pretty much narrowed my options to a Simplex 4004, Simplex 4005, Simplex 4006, or Edwards FireShield FS-1004. A Cerberus Pyrotronics SXL-EX is still an option, but as a hobbyist/collector I appreciate the flexibility of the Simplex and...

Re: Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

West Residence Hall --Greensboro College, Greensboro, NC There's a VERY interesting mix, resulting from a partial upgrade due to a fire on the basement and first floors three years ago. There was another Simplex system installed in the past 10-15 years, replacing an old high-voltage Pyr-A-Larm syst...

Re: Fire alarm NAs mounted outside on the front of supermarkets.

That actually sounds like it would be really interesting but look really ugly so I may have to go by there one of these days to check it out. Yeah, it's right above the big logo so it does kinda stick out like a sore thumb. A supermarket that just opened up near me has a red SpectrAlert Advance on ...

Re: My School's (and District's) Fire Alarm System History: Complete

1982: My Local School District takes a step to upgrade and overhaul all the fire alarm systems in all buildings in the district. The winning bid is awarded to Simplex Time Recorder Co. of Gardner, Mass. in conjunction with the regional Ohio branch of Simplex. All systems in all 3 elementary schools...

Re: Autocall is coming back

I feel like JCI's proposed Autocall revival is really trying to compete with Fire-Lite and Gamewell-FCi. Those two brands have, at least in my area, a complete domination over the small-midsize market now (not including schools). I haven't seen a small-midsize Simplex system newer than 2001 in my a...

Re: Autocall is coming back

Small end Simplex systems are virtually obsolete. That's the whole reason they want to revive the Autocall brand. They're trying to get something to compete with say the Silent Knight 5808. Even the Silent Knight 5808 isn't all that popular. I can think of very few places I've been to with a 5808 i...

Re: If you could own any system...

My username will give my dream choice away :D. My #1 dream choice is a LOADED Cerberus Pyrotronics IXL system, complete with every option available. As for a practical conventional choice, I'm torn between a Simplex 4002-4006 or a Cerberus Pyrotronics System3 or SXL. As for addressability, a Siemens...
