If you own a simplex 4037 or a Benjamin signals horn, or a Honeywell like I have here and are stumped on why it’s so quiet? I have a solution that could fix your problem. The 4037 flush and non flush, Benjamin signals N8546, or this Honeywell SC42A1068 all have very similar coils and mechs. Which tend to go from extraordinarily loud to bearable without ear pro over time with little to ho explanation. A fix for my issue and very others is involving the coil and it’s attachment to the frame. The holes on the frame, and holes in the laminated steel coil are of slightly different sizes, the frame being the larger. And the screws, being the smallest size of the other 2 mean that a considerable amount of wiggle room exists. By loosening the 2 screws and pushing the coil up, if not up already, it can go into the max height possible, then tighten the screws holding the coil, still pushing the coil up, the distance between the coil and the striker on the diaphragm will have increased, this making it louder. Another issue could be with the volume screw being screwed in. The volume screw takes a 1/16 size hex/Allen wrench, very small. It may be difficult to first put in due to debris or rust. Lastly a different solution to a different problem is separating the diaphragm from it’s respective holder, mine was pretty stuck but by inserting a blade between the rubber gasket and diaphragm, and wiggling it around, encircling the diaphragm, I was able to seperate them. My gasket was pretty rubbery still and either made of quality material or preserved. If this doesn’t solve your problems, ask around for other advice.
(If there is a lack of photos, I regretfully forgot to take any while doing the process, but I don’t want to do the process again because it’s annoying)

PLEASE NOTE: the coil can be adjusted to be too far away from the diaphragm causing it to make no sound, and it will have to be adjusted back! Also this is a very finicky to work with, which when I had tried, I ended up with it at the same volume as It had come in.
