DVR recommendations

Anyone recommend a good DVR for a couple of security cameras?

I’ve got three cameras on my house and for the longest time just had them connected to a quad with a time lapse VCR. Then I take the monitor out off the quad, go into a modulator, and broadcast out on channel 33 throughout the house. This setup has worked just fine for the last 12 years I have lived here with the exception of going through a couple of VCR’s. But now the last VCR has give out and it’s time to enter the 21st century!

I don’t want anything too expensive or fancy - only looking to continuously loop the last 48 hours or so. Email notification and motion detection not necessarily a requirement. Quick search online shows so many different ones, some from brands I’ve never even heard of, and would like to avoid the cheap Chinese crap you see out there. Unfortunately, I’ve been out of the CCTV end of things for at least 8 years and haven’t keep up with it. At my old company before I left, we were just starting to put in a couple of stand alone DVR’s and a couple of PC based units, but they were $$$$$. I would figure by now the technology has gotten smaller, a little less expensive, and maybe more mainstream. So any suggestions would be appreciated.
