This is not intended to be NOR turn into a Android vs. Apple debate. I think both are great operating systems and I withhold any bias from this post. But if anyone thinks there is feel free to report me.

Apple had their WWDC today and launched many new goodies including, iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks.

My question iOS users and anyone interested in tech: What do you think of the new design in iOS 7? If you do use iOS or plan on using iOS are you going to upgrade or not? And why?

I think the new design overall is very neat! Making so many changes, yet keeping something so similar in any operating system is very hard to do, and I think they did a great job this time around. I drooled over the parallax 3D effect they added to the home screen wallpaper. In addition, the reduction of skeuomorphism is more than welcomed! I’m definitely planning on upgrading when it comes out! Just have to wait until fall… is it fall yet!? Can’t wait!

I am definitely looking forward to iOS 7 as well. Apple has definitely done a beautiful job with the new user interface, and has changed it just enough to make it more advanced and modern, but still keep the familiarity that users like with iOS. It is definitely very well thought out. The new looks of the app icons aren’t exactly my favorite, but that’s not a huge detail. I look forward to downloading it when it comes out this fall!

In addition, Microsoft’s “Metro” UI and iOS7 seem to be pretty different to me. Sure, they’re both flat designs, but the Metro UI focuses more on typography whereas Apple is still focusing more on other visual designs.

Also, if anybody wants sort of a “preview” of iOS 7, you can check out the Yahoo! Weather App in the iOS App Store. That, and the weather app previewed for iOS 7, are practically the same.

As for OSX Mavericks, it’s not a huge update, like I expected, but I’m probably still going to purchase it when it is released. I’m a bit disappointed that it doesn’t have Siri on it, however.

I like the up dates apple has and you know what’s funny is that I’m reading this on my iPhone

I personally welcome the design changes. As we move further into an era where most phone users are comfortable with technology and have grown up with GUI operating systems, the need for skeumorphic metaphors decreases. The original iOS took many cues from the Aqua interface, which was originally designed as a stark departure from the dull “beige box” computing environment of the 90’s and gave computers a friendlier, less intimidating face. As desktop and laptop sales are shrinking in favor of mobile devices, I think it was the right decision for Apple to remove the last vestiges of Aqua “bubble” gradients and fake 3D glass. Sure, the solid colors and Helvetica Neue brings it closer to Metro, but I think flat and simple better suits small touchscreen devices.

Oh, no! When I put I hate it as a poll option, I was talking about the design, and not necessarily about the company. They say hate is a strong word but oh well…

Honestly, I was thinking it was going to be even flatter, but it’s not too bad. There’s now a lot of transparency, mainly when you go into Notification and Control Center Panels, it’ll blur out the background but you can see the colors of what’s behind it. I also like how the color of passcode screen will change color based on what your primary color of the background is. I thought I was going to be disappointed but I think Jony Ive did a good job of redesigning it. The new features and improvements to old features make iOS7 even better, even though it might not have nearly the amount of robust features as Android devices still.

Once again, if you guys want to get a feel for what iOS 7 will feel like (especially with the transparency stuff), check out the ‎Yahoo Weather on the App Store Yahoo! Weather App. It’s surprisingly good for something coming from Yahoo!

Also, I just noticed some a couple of minor things. First is that the clock icon displays the actual time now. No more being stuck at 10:15! Also, there isn’t a FaceTime icon on the front page, or even any mentions of FaceTime on the iOS 7 webpage. It seems strange that Apple didn’t even mention it once.

I havent recevied IOS 7 yet

It comes out this fall. Same thing with OSX Mavericks. Kind of a pain to have them announce it so far in advanced, because that means you have to wait longer for it.

Ok so I will be expecting it this fall

I am very impressed with the new design. However, the only thing that was disappointing was that they didn’t implement the “Up Next” feature from iTunes into the iOS music app, which is something I’ve been anticipating for quite a while. :x

After playing around with the iOS 7 Beta for a little while, my opinion that this is a great mobile OS and development for Apple still stands. So far, none of the announced features (that I’ve tried) have disappointed me in the slightest. It is definitely very modern, smooth, and well-crafted.

I have developer SDK. Be jealous.
