I don’t think all of those are rare…
Some of those aren’t but a few he described sound pretty rare.
WE already have this topic but I’ll allow it to re-open so that everything stays in one place.
EDIT: Merged.
These used to be really common around here.
I never realized people collected this stuff, I’ve thrown away more wheelock and faraday signals than I care to admit. Last year I trashed a complete fully working SXL-EX we pulled out off of a site.
You haven’t ran into any Standard Electric Time horn lights, have you?
Or any Edwards adaptahorns with a red corridor lamp?
Fire alarms
- Edwards 10" Single Stroke Adaptabel(older 24VDC pretty uncommon and it is a American model because it is Grey)
- Gamwell Century Full Moon pull station with Local Alarm lettering(got yesterday)
- Simplex 4001(not very common my first panel lol)
- Simplex Wiffle Ball Smoke/Heat Photoelectric 2 wires Smoke Detector they are not very common
Others
Sirens
You possibly didn’t know I’m a Siren Enthusiast too(check my signature)
- pre-1980’s ACA Screamer S-5(single phase when it wind up it Screams)
- Federal model 7 siren(Single phase the housing is in good condition)
Smokes alarms PLEASE DON’T ASK ABOUT BUYING THEM THEY WILL BE NEVER FOR SALE - LOUD Fyrenetics Smoke alarm(located in my room it is loud the sensibility is set to max)
- Honeywell TC49A very rare Smoke Alarm (Located in hallway It was originally located in the basement)
The Older style 4100 Is at my dads office. He took it down from our house and put up 120 Volt smokes because I set the system off at midnight without telling them I was gonna do it. And commander 3’s on electro-mechanical really isn’t that bad Dad says I can’t bring the camera into the office for privacy reasons.
so sorry no pics till I get it back, which I might not
Don’t have much of a collection, just a few things I have collected over the years. I have a Wheelock 7002t horn/strobe that I found new in the box - not really “rare” because there are still plenty around, but I love the sound they put out, especially the pulsing it does when the strobe is firing. But here is a couple of rare things I’ve collected:
Dictograph fire panel we pulled off of a residential installation
Couch pull station I found buried in a wall - reached in and yanked it out with my bare hands (I was on a mission)
Have you ever run into any Standard or Johnson controls systems? I had to ask. I’m on a mission to find a few things…and so far my mission is mission impossible.
I can count on one hand how many times I’ve worked with a Standard Electric system. Never seen a Johnson Controls.
Johnson Controls owned Standard Electric for a brief time in the 70s, I assume that’s the time period you’re looking for?
Currently, Johnson Controls just uses rebranded notifier panels.
Yeah, mostly '70s and early '80s. I realize that the two companies were essentially one and the same during that time period.
When I was a kid, the school I went to had a Standard (JC) system in it and it was all done over in 1998. After that, the only time I have seen another system like that was in a hospital in 2000. Ever since then I’ve never run into another. So for that reason, Standard and JC products have always had a hold on me and have given me a great feeling of nostalgia.
I have just a few of their products and someday I’m hoping to get a few more, some notification devices, maybe even a couple panels…
Its really ironic that I don’t see their systems around seeing as how their place of business was only 50 miles west of me.
Were their panels expensive? I might have been they did too much for the price or some businesses didn’t need them.
Maybe, but they were out of business before I was born, so I really don’t know much about the company. Simplex is/was based very close to me, two towns away in fact, and their stuff is EVERYWHERE. Its a very popular brand in these parts. One possibility with Standard is that in the few and I mean FEW places I had ever seen it, it was large, institutional buildings that utilized it. Schools, hospitals, etc. The only guess I could take is that Standard systems were designed more for large areas? Possibly more cost effective in large systems? I may never know.
My currently rarest item is an Ademco 331 combination fire burglar control panel most likely made in the '70s and is probably absurdly rare.
(update: it’s probably from the 60s)
Well, I don’t have many alarms, but the rarist alarm I have is a simplex 2903-9002 with a some rare simplex speaker.
I have a Harrington Signal 6227HS-W, a Gentex GESB-24PWW mass notification strobe, a white EST Integrity horn strobe, and an Ametek HSD (Grey FS 450D).
Do you know anything about the wiring of the simplex 2098-9575?
I only have a few rare devices and they are….

Est: 965-3a-4Rw
System sensor: pa400r-f
