For Building Installed with Sprinkler system ,Fire alarm detection system ( Complete coverage ) is required or not
IBC 2012 code is being followed , Sprinkler is installed in all the area except electrical /Communication room. Building is defined as Maintenance operation building located in refinery
I’m not an expert on the IBC (I’m used to the NFPA 101), but I would probably guess a maintenance operations building like you describe would fall under group F in the IBC (Factory). I’m also assuming this isn’t a high rise.
A group F occupancy doesn’t require a smoke detection system, or even manual pull stations if you have an automatic sprinkler system. If it’s a single story building with less than 500 people, you don’t even need a notification system. If it’s over 500 people, or two or more stories, you’ll need a fire alarm notification system activated by the water flow switch on the sprinkler system. Since it’s in a refinery, the AHJ could very well override all of this and require a full system.
Since you mentioned it was a maintenance building, does it have any hazards? Welding or something along those lines?
Just wanted to add something since today seems appropriate. If a certain building (people who live near or around Rhode Island and West Warwick should catch on quick) had a proper sprinkler system, then today wouldn’t be the anniversary of the day that so many people died horribly in the inferno of a burning building. Although I do realize there were more factors at play there, if there was a sprinkler system in place, I’m sure 100 people would still be here.
