Will a Simplex 4003 happen to work on a Fire Lite Panel??

If you’re using a Simplex 4903 speaker/strobe with a Fire-Lite Voice Evac Panel, the strobe, at the least, will not be compatible with it. Fire-Lite panels output FWR power, which has been known to damage a lot of Simplex signals, this type included. I’m not sure if the speaker would be affected, on the other hand, but just to stay safe, it’s probably best not to use Simplex signals with Fire-Lite panels at all.

I think he means a 4003 VECU. I’m not sure how VECUs react to FWR, especially Simplex ones. I know that the 4003 is designed to be used with a 40xx series panel, which all output filtered DC. I wouldn’t try it, at least until someone confirms this.
I think it would work, since I’ve seen Fire-Lite VECUs used with panels that are known to output FWR, but until someone confirms that FWR wouldn’t kill a 4003, don’t quote me on that.

The first question is which version of 4003 is being considered? Is it the original 4003-9001 (or -9002) or is it the 4003EC which is a private label modified version of the Wheelock Safepath?

The original Simplex design 4003 does require filtered NAC power for correct operation. If connected to a 4001 the board had to be modified to use filtered power from the 4003 to operate the NAC.

The 4003EC can use a dry relay contact input so can be connected to a panel that uses FWR power on the NAC.

Totally read “4003” and “4903,” my mistake!
