Weatherproof

What makes an alarm weatherproof

Some alarms have a foam lining on them that repels water from getting into the wiring. You’ll also find it lined inside the horn assembly. The plastic cover may also be of different material that is weather resistant.

Outdoor fire alarms also make them waterproof.

That makes no sense!

I mean “weatherproof”!

I think what they’re trying to say is that the direction of causality was reversed in your statement.

An alarm needs to be weatherproof to be mounted safely outside, but mounting an alarm outside doesn’t make it weatherproof. If you mounted a GX-90 outside on a normal backbox, it wouldn’t be weatherproof.

What about if you mounted it on a weatherproof backbox? (Don’t know if GX-90s come with weatherproof backboxes.)
