An old fire alarm system with no panel.

This video has an old fire alarm system from the 1980s with no FACP.

very few systems were setup like that at the time, but very interesting to see that kind of system setup from that time era. by today’s standards, that system would not comply with current NEC and NFPA codes.

The video is interesting. If the building was built in the 1980s it is in a location that had very lax fire codes and fire officials at the time. I say that because I was working for Simplex and installing systems in the 1980s.

The hard wired system in the 1980s was the 2001 which had replaced the 4207/08 series which replaced the 4247 series systems. I installed examples of all those systems. I also installed a few 2100 multiplex systems which were replaced by the 2120 around 1981 or 1982.

Our city did have some three wire systems still installed and grandfathered. Those were at a very old college campus. The buildings were probably built in the 1920/30/40 era and were never remodeled so were never updated.
