White alarm on the wall at Save A Lot labeled "smoke".

The local Save A Lot store has no fire alarm system. However they have two white alarms mounted on the wall at light switch height with key inserts that say “smoke” on them. They have one in the front of the store and one in the back. They have test buttons on them. Ever seen these?

The first thing that comes to mind is a control station for a standalone duct smoke detector. The picture is the control station for a Simplex 4098-9687 standalone duct detector. Other brands have standalone duct detectors too. These are installed to shut down the unit if a fire starts in the unit or to stop smoke distribution from a fire elsewhere in the building.

I believe you may have seen one of these, a System Sensor RTS-2.

This is a remote test switch similar to what Retired STR-SG discussed.

Yeah it’s similar to that System Sensor thing pictured. It doesn’t have a strobe though.
