Simplex 2001 Help & Questions

Hello everyone,

Recently I purchased a Simplex 2001, the red single-bay version. It comes with a dual zone card, dual nac card, a relay card, and a “smoke” card. I have a few questions about it.

  1. What is the smoke card for? Is it for 2-wire detectors? If it helps it has a fuse, disconnect switch and a trouble indicator.

  2. I would like to add a 556-249 march time card to it. How would I need to change the internal wiring in the motherboard for it?

That’s all for now, It’s coming in the mail in the next week or so. I’ll post more questions as they come up.

The dual zone module probably is a 2001-1017 (556-082) or a 2001-1019 (556-896). Both support two wire smoke detectors. The -1019 has disconnect / test switches that the -1017 does not. Otherwise the circuitry is the same.

The “SMOKE” module is a fuse-reset module 2001-2085 (556-255) with an updated label. Typically this is used to supply power to four wire smoke detectors such as duct detectors with shutdown relays. The switch provides a way to reset those detectors.

To add the march time module some wiring has to be added to the motherboard. In addition, a diode on the control module and jumpers on the signal module have to be cut. I have that documentation and will get download links to you.

Ok, I got the 2001. I have the march time card and zone card in as well. The current card order is System control, Dual zone in slot 2, Smoke power in card three, Relay in slot 7, and Dual NAC in card 8. I want to add the March time card in slot 6, and an additional Dual Zone in slot 4. Which connections do I need to make in the jumper holes? Which jumpers need to be cut? Any help will be appreciated.

What kind of notification appliances are you planning to use? I ask this because when a march time card is added both circuits on the dual signal card will be march time. That cannot be changed. If you are using a strobe those do not work well on pulsed power. Strobes need constant power. If using a strobe I suggest it be operated through the relay card which can be wired to provide constant power. That will be an unsupervised circuit.

The relay card has two relays and the operation of each can be set up independently. How do you want the relays to operate? There are a number of jumpers that are removed to set the operation of the relays. Check JW1, JW2, JW3, JW4, JW5, and JW6. Let me know which are in and removed. That tells me how the relays are set up now.

There are two versions of the relay card. They operate the same but the contact arrangement is different at the field wiring terminal strip. The part number on the component side of the board will have a rev letter at the end. What is the rev letter on your card?

One more thing. Are there any wires added to the motherboard now?

Just one more thing. I’m starting to sound like Lt. Columbo.

What is the rev letter of the march time module? There was a change made in those too.

I was able to get the 2001 to work as I wanted it to. I watched NewAgeServerAlarm’s 2001 video and copied the jumper configuration. Thank you for your help. I’ll let you all know if anything else comes up.

Alright, I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while. Do any of you know what the resistor values for the 2001 zones are? I’m using 2001-1019 dual zone cards. Thanks!

As it shows in the Field Wiring Diagrams (841-382) I included in the download links I sent, the EOLR is 3.3K ohms.

Huh, thanks for telling me. I guess I didn’t notice it in the diagrams.
