Can you convert 120v Device to 24v

I just bought a Grey wheelock MT with a frosted strobe (For $4!) that operates on 120v. Is it possible to convert this to 24v? in the image it looks like there is an onboard transformer. Can i just bypass this?

Nope. You’ll fry it.

If it’s 120 VAC, you can just wire it in with an old extension cord. Just be really careful, though.

Be careful what you wire it in TO. Yes you can wire this into an extension cord and plug that into the wall socket which supplies 120V. If you put 24 volts across the terminals, nothing will happen to the device (you may short the power supply). It goes without saying but 120VAC is SERIOUS power, so be careful hooking it up. And if you want your panel to be able to control the device’s activation, you’ll need to look into relays designed for high voltage (The built-in ALARM relay on most control panels is not rated for this level of power).
If you could send an image of the transformer/circuit board it’s entirely possible that you could cut out the transformer/rectifier and bypass it. The internals of this MT would be no different from its 24V counterpart aside from the transformer and rectifier bridge that have been tacked onto it. There are 120V spectrAlert Advances that can be converted to 24V by removing the transformers.
