Fire Alarm Coding Resources

Hey everyone!

This semester I am going to do a science fair on which fire alarm sound is best for evacuation purposes based on perception and accuracy of identification. This is a pretty hard topic to do research since there are limited resources out there to help assist me in providing background information.

If anyone happens to have resources on why certain codes (the pulse codes, not NFPA 72 type codes) were made, or anything else related to this topic, please post them here so I can do my research!

Thank you so much! Your help is appreciated and will hopefully be useful to contributing to fire safety in the future!

The pulse signal (march time) was just a signal that many manufacturers used before Code 3, simply because it was more attention-getting than continuous.

Perhaps you’ve already found it, but this article would definitely be relevant to your topic.

Can we talk about the 10 people who couldn’t recognize a car horn on page 14?

For real though, I wonder what would happen if this took place today, since code 3 has been the standard for a while now.
