How to Resize Images

Postby Destin » Wed Jun 18, 2014 12:21 pm

When uploading an attachment, your image will show up on the forum in actual size. In order to prevent high-resolution photos from taking up the entire page, you'll need to resize them on your computer first. Here's a quick tutorial on what to do.

Windows
1. Right-click on the photo you wish to resize and open it with "Paint".
2. On Paint's toolbar, go to "Image", then "Resize".
3. Check "Maintain aspect ratio" to keep the image proportional to the original.
4. You can resize your photo by percentage or by pixels. If you choose pixels, a width of 800 should show up nicely on the forums.
5. Save your work and upload! Keep in mind that this will permanently resize your original image, so if you want to save it as a copy, use "Save as" instead of "Save".

Mac
1. Right-click on the photo you wish to resize and open it with "Preview". By default, all images will open with this.
2. On the toolbar, go to "Tools", then "Adjust size".
3. You can choose several different metrics to resize your photo by. Percent and pixels are the best for these purposes. If you choose pixels, a width of 800 should show up nicely on the forums.
4. Make sure "Scale proportionately" is checked. It is by default.
5. Save your work and upload! Keep in mind that this will permanently resize your original image, so if you want to save it as a copy, use "Save as" instead of "Save".

Alternatively, you can upload your photo to a site like Photobucket and resize it there. They've made it easy to remotely link images on forums. Simply copy the "[IMG]" URL and paste it into your post.

Yeah, there's gotta be at least a dozen photo resizer apps on the App store.
