Fire alarms at UMass Boston

Some updates…
In the Clark Athletic Center, a mezzanine was refurbished. It now has 4099-9006’s and TrueAlert horn/strobes.

The same is the case for Healey Library’s main entrance.

Also, a new electric/utility shed - which is about the size of a bedroom - was built next to a new parking lot. Imagine the surprise when I saw this Wheelock ET70WP on the outside.

The shed’s door was unlocked and guess what was inside? A 4100ES.

Did I mention that this shed is the size of a bedroom and is normally unoccupied? Keep in mind that some other buildings on campus, such as the West Garage, which is only a few years old and houses some parking offices, do not have a voice system.

There was thread posted by yours truly years ago about small voice systems… this one takes the cake, hands down.

That 4100 ES looks brand new, it’s cool seeing the old Gamewell pull box beside it, strange it has voice evac.

What is that masterbox used for?

It’s a means of monitoring. Boston is probably the largest city to still use masterboxes. (A masterbox isn’t mandatory since the state building code allows a monitoring company to be used instead.)

The masterbox is also brand-new, and so is that entire shed.

They still make those? Dang!

Healey Library’s system in action.

I love Boston and seeing those masterboxes. I stayed at an old Airbnb in Salem, and remember there was one right outside on the hydro pole.

In case anyone’s interested in seeing the picture of that disconnected 4051+4040-60 in McCormack Hall that I mentioned in another thread…

I’ve never seen a 4903 on a cage before.

me neither. It looks like a simplex “cage” that goes over the pull stations.

The only place that I have seen that is in the locker rooms of my local Aquatic Center.

that’s massachusetts for you

the high school I went to had them in cages in the gym.

The recently-installed TrueAlert horn/strobes at the Clark Athletic Center have been replaced with Wheelock Eluxa horn/strobes and an Exceder.
