The Z series is no longer on the Wheelock website.
That is not correct. Not sure what website you were looking at or if you just missed it but they are stll there.

I was visiting my grandparents today for my dad and uncle’s birthday celebration (yes, they have the same birthday). I asked my grandpa about the sprinklers again, he looked them up, and I learned they are made by a company called Gem. Gem is owned by Tyco. Also here is the system:
Panel: Silent Knight (according to my grandpa, it’s the original panel)
Pulls: Autocall pulls, I don’t know why they installed these instead of Silent Knight pulls
Alarms: Federal Signal (most likely SelecTones, because my grandpa says there is a voice evac) alarms behind SAE V33 light plates (the wide ones) mounted on the ceiling in the hallways. In the apartments, the alarms might be horns that are integrated into the speakers.
Smokes: I don’t know what the hallway has, but these are in the apartments. They apparently are ESL smokes:
These may not be the exact same ones, but they look very similar.
Also, my grandpa confirmed that indeed the system is serviced by Simplex. That must be why they installed a 2099-9754 to replace a dead Autocall pull. I even remember when that Autocall pull was still there and noticed when the 2099 replaced it.
Where exactly is the 4030 located? Someone else on another thread said it was above the tank. Is it on the wall or ceiling. My guess, is if you can’t see it up close, it’s probably across the way from the platform. I can’t wait to see it when I go next time and I hope it’s still there. Where is the Wheelock NS up there. I remember seeing one on a lower level, but didn’t notice the one on top.
This is not my image of it, but someone on the forum took this picture of it. It’s unclear exactly where it is according to this picture. If you can’t see it easily, it’s probably on the side of the tank you can’t go on.
My verizon store has the newer 270-SPO with ceiling mount EST Genesis horn strobes.
Store was built around 2007.
That’d be my pic from my last trip there. It’s right next to the stairs, on the upper level of the big tank, across from the edge of the tank, on the wall, on right hand side if you’re coming up the stairs. literarly as soon as you get off the stairs look on the right hand “collum”. The black space next next to the 4030 in my pic is the stairway. It’s easy to miss do to the dim lighting and the crowds preventing a good scan. I didn’t know it was there, until I happen to see it off the corner of my eye, and even than I almost passed it off as an intercom. I didn’t see any of the NS’ (I wouldn’t of missed an NS), just 4903 speaker/strobes, 2099 break glass t-bars under stoppers, 4904 (9219 style lenses) remote strobes, the 4030, and the 2 870 Adaptahorns at the enterance.
If I remember correctly, the NS (I only remember seeing one) the NS was opposite the entrance (if you’re facing the doors, turn around and you should see the NS),
I was at a Subway today (the restaurant) which had an addressable system. Seems like overkill to me.

Well, a McDonald’s restaurant near my house has an addressable system too. It has SpectrAlert horn/strobes and a Gentex Commander horn/strobe in the mens’ room (I think it’s a Commander 1 cause it has “FIRE” on the sides of the horn/strobe in the Spectra Advance-like font), Fire-Lite BG-12LX pulls (the ones that periodically flash a red light in the middle of the lever) and Fire-Lite smokes. I don’t know what the panel is, but I’m guessing it’s either a Fire-Lite or Silent Knight model.
Speaking of which, the Circuit City they built in my town last year (which is closing down with all the other Circuit City stores in the country) has a Silent Knight system of some sort, I saw an annunciator for it in the main entrance, and it has ceiling-mount SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes and the BG-8 -like Silent Knight pulls. I’m not surprised that the store went with that sort of system, because many large stores in my area go with Notifier or Fire-Lite or Silent Knight systems.
The Kentucky Fried Chicken also near our house has a Silent Knight system, too. They have an annunciator for it at an entrance, the signals are Wheelock AS horn/strobes and the pulls are the metal dual-action RSG T-bars (but they aren’t branded by any company like on a Radionics or Siemens system). The smokes are newer ESL models. At a doorway I could see the Silent Knight panel, and next to it was a Wheelock RSS strobe.
A lot of franchises have to abide by a sort of corporate structure. They are told how to fry the chicken, how to decorate the establishment, how to clothe the employees, how to structure the menu and yes, how their security and fire systems are installed.
This subway was probably following the formula provided to them by corporate headquarters. I have done about 15 McDonalds and every one was the same exact, carbon coby of the last, a small 50 point addressable FACP, a few detectors, pulls, a/v appliances, an outdoor beacon, some ansul monitors and maybe a fan shutdown or two.
The price difference between comparable addressable and conventional setups is actually fairly minimal and is usually negated by the difference in install time and materials…after all, you only have to pipe one SLC loop and one NAC loop, maybe use the second NAC for the outdoor horn strobe whereas on a conventional, you would have to pipe 3 or 4 separate IDC’s etc.
So no, I don’t think it was overkill unless you mean something like a 4 loop 3030 or something outrageous but I imagine it is probably a Firelite 9050 or something similar which is quite inexpensive.
I figured something out recently. If anyone remembers when I was in Ghettysburg PA at the Best Western and the fire alarm went off there. I thought they were 7002ts, but I remember them sounding deep and not skipping. I actually think they are 7004ts. So, indeed, I have heard 7004ts, but never 7002ts.
So, indeed, I have heard 7004ts, but never 7002ts.
I’ve never heard of 7004T’s in my lifetime. I heard of 7001T’s which are similar to 7002T’s (strobe position is different.) What’s a 7004T, I’d be interested in hearing about it.

Its a 120VAC version of the 7002T.
I took the T into Boston today to try out my CharlieCard. It works well and saves money. I also saw the systems at the Prudential Center. Everything is the same, except I’m starting the think the 4903 alarms are 9129s cause they’re silver under the grille. Maybe some of the speaker/strobes are silver under the grille, since I’d be surprised if they were indeed 9129s because all the other alarms in the mall are speaker/strobes.
Also, Coldstone Creamery has the alarms I guessed they would have. They have a TrueAlert speaker/strobe and a dual-action t-bar. California Pizza kitchen used to have 9501 strobes and separate life alarm speakers. But I peaked through the exterior window since it’s closed for renovations and I saw a TrueAlert speaker/strobe. I thought they would probably go with those since all the new areas are getting them. I also saw a graphic annunciator near an entrance and I’m guessing the panel is a 4100.
I decided to make a quick trip back here to talk about the alarms I’ll be dealing with in college next year.
I got accepted to all 5 schools that I applied to and will most likely be going to Drexel this fall. I went for a visit yesterday to see what I would get to experience in the honors program. Most of the academic buildings had an assortment of old-school horns and pulls, including 9806s, BG-6s, and a couple MASSs. My main alarm-related concern, however, was what I would find in the honors dorm. It’s a good thing that honor students get the most recently built residence hall. I was delighted to see that I would be sleeping in a building with a Notifier voice system consisting of ETs, NBG-12s, and unmarked 6-inch speakers in the rooms. I’ll be so much more at ease knowing that if I ever wake up to a false alarm, it’ll be speakers and not horns.
I’ll talk about my senior year fire drill experiences in the fire drill thread.
Welcome back, Extension29100!
I wasn’t planning to come back full-time. My interest in alarms isn’t strong enough to make it worth fitting full-time forum participation into my busy schedule. I just wanted to briefly come back and give an update on my alarm experiences since I left.
This is somewhat of a long shot, but http://www.glensfallscc.com/ Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, NY: Simplex 4050s/4051s on 4050-80 light plates and 4251 T-bar pulls. Panel is unknown (probably 2001 though). Building was built (or opened) in 1979.
It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve been there, so IDK if the alarms have since been upgraded. There are pictures online of the inside of the arena, but I can’t make out any alarms in them.

If not a 2001, then the panel could be a Simplex 4208, but that’s an educated guess. I suppose this is the only place you’ve seen 4051+4050-80s in person?
Yeah. It’s one of the oldest alarm systems still in service in my area. The building is used very frequently, especially this time of year with high school basketball championship being held there. As the site says, at max, the building can seat 7,806 people, so I think an upgrade would probably be a good idea.
