i remember someone on this forum years ago said he kept a pull station on his desk and whenever he asked people if they would like to try it out, they’d often ask if it would “go off” when they pull down the handle.

apparently those people thought a fire alarm would sound if they pulled that pull station even though it wasn’t connected to anything.
