Rare Smoke Detectors

Pretty sure they look identical from the outside with of course the exception of the label.

Also one of my great uncles has a 6/18/FXW-R/GC in his house, so I might be getting that next year in 2027! (he also has a BRK 4120/5120B but I’m not as interested in that)

Oh? Alright, neat. Hope you replace it with a new detector though as I’ve done with many G-6s in my area (which of course was because they were all way past their expiration date of 10 years, & the one in your uncle’s house definitely is too).

I actually am, so you could send it to me if you replace it but don’t want it for yourself.

Yeah although we won’t be replacing it for a little bit because my great uncle is in his 70s or 80s, and also these are hardwired alarms so they’d be a little harder to replace. Also most of my family lives in Utah but I live in New York State so I couldn’t really help out my great uncle with replacing them. But during the summer every year I go to visit my family so maybe I’ll be able to help him out with that when I do that I don’t know though.

I’ll think about it.

This thing looks like a i9040 except the horn grille is bigger

I’ve never seen that before but it indeed looks really cursed lol. Like a mix of an SA67B and an i9040

I’m on a streak of getting rare Canadian finds!

What’s the difference between the SS718 and the SS718SS? Also nice finds!

Nothing SS718 is just easier than saying SS718SS

So the actual model is SS718SS and not just SS718?

That is likely a Masterguard MG-CO/1200, a rebranded Quantum Group COSTAR 9SIR, which are, believe it or not, both CO detectors.

Masterguard MG-50s: those wouldn’t happen to be in the same house as the above CO detector would they? (since if they are it seems you’ve found a house largely protected by Masterguard products, heh)

Nice! Interesting how that FRU-2 has wiremold going to it as well.

Dang, nice! Funny how the first two are mounted sideways though, heh.

They actually are in the same house

Yep the full model is SS718SS

No wonder in NLinds unboxing video it says “SS718SS” I always thought that was just a misspelling or something.

Also congratulations on finding a SS718!!! Although it is the second generation which I like less, I don’t really like the design as much on the second generations.

Ah okay, cool: that family must have gone with Masterguard for just about all of their life safety needs then, heh. You didn’t happen to spot any Masterguard smoke detectors anywhere did you? (which most of the time should look identical to Gentex ones, just with a different label of course)

No just those two heat bells and the CO alarm

Just found my second ever house! I think it’s painted.
