Can you video this problem?
Not right now, it’s 8:30 and my little sister is in bed. I’ll do it tomorrow after school.
OK. I’m just having trouble imagining this rapid chirping sound.
Oh wow. Sounds like a PA400.
I notice when I took one of my early 90’s 83R circuit boards out from the plastic base, there were some resistors under the horn. Putting my finger across them made the horn sound faster. Maybe there is some corrosion or moisture causing current to leak? Sounds plausible with an old smoke detector.
I vacuumed out the sensor again and it still falses, but the pulsating speed is normal that’s some improvement!
Lol yeah, hey! Could still be some corrosion or residue.
The only thing is: I don’t recommend trying to remove the circuit board on these SA67D detectors. And here’s why:
The circuit board looks like it’s only held down by the tabs on the corners of the board BUT there is an additional one to prevent tampering (Which this would be). There is a final tab under the horn on the circuit board that is incredibly hard to access. But, if you pinch it hard enough, while simultaneously squeezing the visible tabs above the board, the board will release. On that 83R I was telling you about, I just snipped the anti-tamper tab off.
I really don’t know what’s wrong with it. At least it sorta works!
Anyway, I will be getting some new smoke alarms for my collection cause there’s a Kidde 0916 in my sisters room wouldn’t stop chirping (even with a fresh battery) and it’s also over 10 years old. The one in my parents room (same model) will also be replaced because it’s over ten years old as well. These aren’t really that old since they’re both from 2003-2004.
Also, on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-USED-FIRST-ALERT-PROFESSIONAL-SMOKE-FIRE-DETECTOR-ALARM-MODEL-83R-SA67D-NIB-/331350849926?pt=BI_Security_Fire_Protection&hash=item4d260cb986
3 smoke alarms, a FireX FX1020, a First Alert/Family Gard 83R/FG777D, and a GE 8201-401 with what appears to be a black base. My mom said I could bid on it tomorrow, so I’ll see how it goes!
From the NFPA web site. This applies to household smoke alarms, not system smoke detectors.

Safety tips
Install smoke alarms inside and outside each bedroom and sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. Install alarms in the basement.
Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
It is best to use interconnected smoke alarms. When one smoke alarm sounds they all sound.
Test all smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
There are two kinds of alarms. Ionization smoke alarms are quicker to warn about flaming fires. Photoelectric alarms are quicker to warn about smoldering fires. It is best to use of both types of alarms in the home.
A smoke alarm should be on the ceiling or high on a wall. Keep smoke alarms away from the kitchen to reduce false alarms. They should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) from the stove.
People who are hard-of-hearing or deaf can use special alarms. These alarms have strobe lights and bed shakers.
Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.
Smoke alarms are an important part of a home fire escape plan.
That 83R looks like it’s seen better days. Is that dust?
I don’t know, it could just be a very bad camera.
I’m pretty sure that’s drywall dust from uninstallation. I’d ask the seller what all that stuff is before you bid on it.
Yeah, I’ll do that right now
The seller said that the 83R has a light overspray but it doesn’t affect the working order of the alarm. I’m gonna buy it tomorrow.
Lol. A “light overspray”. So in other words, the alarm has been painted. Personally, I wouldn’t buy an alarm that has been painted, but it does come with two other cool alarms. Those might be worth it.
Here’s another chance to get a BRK 1839ACI. There’s 7 available. I know it’s the same price as before.
I haven’t forgotten about the pics and vids of my 1839ACI and my Southwest Laboratories (Probe) 202. They’re coming.
Cool! I can’t wait for the video. I’ve always wondered what an 1839ACI sounds like.
I am going to bid on the lot of 3 smoke alarms right now.’
Also, today I was at an open house and they had 3 GE Home Sentry 8201-301 (square, 9-volt, black horn, from the mid-late 70’s) smoke detectors there. They lady told me that they were original to the house.
Nice! The 1839ACI probably sounds like a Firex FXW-1A or a similar alarm. A deep, raspy, and very loud factory klaxxon-like tone.
I have the Probe 101, which is nothing too special. Just a standard ion smoke alarm with a piezo horn. Does the 202 have an AC mechanical horn?
I think the 202 has the Kobishi CLB horn (which is what your FireX, FireAlarmFan’s 907A2, and my Lifesaver use).
I won the 3 alarms! Unboxing vid coming whenever they arrive.
Yes the Probe 202 does use the Kobishi CLB horn.
