except they had the classic Sears look. Who knows where this one I just got came in, maybe for some reason they couldn’t get the molds for the later design so they for some reason used this alarm instead of sticking with the larger GS design.
I just replaced two smoke alarms in my house today. I replaced the Kidde i12060 ion with a BRK 7010B and the Kidde combo smoke/CO (I don’t have the model number off hand) with a BRK SC9120B. I tested them and they sounded all the old FireX’s in the house, as well as the other i12060s.
I remember the Kidde smoke/CO had a voice sounder, though. It did code-3 followed by “Fire! Fire!” for smoke and code-4 followed by “Warning! Carbon monoxide!” for CO.
That Probe/Sears looks really awesome. I like how it has the same shape as a Probe but the vents are the traditional Sears vents that have been swirled. Cool!
This is a news report from 2010 about MasterGuard charging upwards of $3000 for a house full of Gentex smoke and heat alarms. They do an unscientific test with a flame, and naturally the cheapy ion detectors sound first. They did not test the detectors with smoldering smoke.
MasterGuard uses some pretty aggressive marketing tactics here, especially since these Gentex alarms cost only about $30 each. But, if you want “full protection”, you absolutely have to pay three grand for quality smoke alarms!
Here’s a smoke detector SirensOfCincinnati and I found while in downtown Cincinnati. It looks to me like a Pyrotronics model, but I’m not sure… Anyone know what it is?
It wasn’t all that rare, just 1400’s, Simplex ceiling mount speaker strobes and strobe, and this Notifier pull (Which I guess is rare): DSCN6385 | 4j25Sirens | Flickr
Cool Earli-Gard! To see the video, click the link on benson’s signature. It’s the first vid on his page.
I found something in my garage today, and I knew right what it was when I saw it.
It is a Kobishi CLB-27 horn. It is the same horn they use in 9VDC electromechanical smoke alarms. (Such as the SA76RS and Sears models).
In fact, it was the original horn that I pulled out of my grandma’s old Sears smoke alarm back in 2002 or so. It was the counterpart to the 76RS.
Yeah idk what happened to the video I posted but here’s the link:
Also, I didn’t know those horns were made by Kobishi! I thought the only ones used in smoke alarms were the 120VAC horns. Then again, i do remember NLind did mentioning in his Honeywell TC89B video that those alarms used the Kobishi horns, so I don’t know.
