January must be the month for rare alarms. Here’s an ESL 996-2, basically what the A*T alarms were based on.

Hey Fire Alarm Fan, what year would that ESL alarm be from? It looks like it might have a brass squealer but not sure. I do believe a former neighbour of mine had one similar this in her house back in the early 1980’s except the detector was a silver or grey colour which was odd for smokes to be that colour. The grill on the front looks the same. This detector had a loud squealer horn as it accidentely went off one time when I was there.

My guess would be from the late '70s. NuTone made a version of this also. It indeed uses a squealer horn for the AC units and the black Star buzzer in the DC units.

Oh okay this must a have the alarm my neighbour had. This may sound silly but how did the star buzzer differ in sound from the squealers. Were they louder and did they sound in continuous?

4/5 I believe?

So they pulsed as in piezos?

No, the piezo/Star ones sound like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0n50XFBn6Y&list=PL91B9B77C5AEC2F6A#t=758 this.

Anybody know what this is? These are in a late-1960’s building with a Standard Electric Time system, and the LED blinks about every 3 seconds.

I saw a video of one that looks a lot like the one in the picture. Here’s the video:

In the comments, the uploaded states that it is a Fire Alert CPD-1212, which he then says that they changed their name to Kidde-Fenwal. Could this be a predecessor to Kidde-Fenwall’s RSD-117A that FireAlarmFan has? Also, since the smoke alarm in the picture is a system detector, I guess it’s a different model number but still could be the same manufacturer.

Remember that Probe 201 awhile back, I got one for christmas. Here is a video of me testing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMSQ84kjt_E

Cool, sounds just like my FireX FX1020.

That is pretty cool.

Great vid! I’ve been trying to get a good vid of my 202. That’s odd that your 201 has a third wire, because I didn’t think that the 201 could be interconnected. I know the few 201’s I’ve seen on eBay only have the hot and neutral wires. Fire Alarm Fan posted a pic he found awhile back of a 201, but I thought it was a 202 because it had the third wire like yours. That made me think that there were two versions of the 202 - one that had a separate alarm LED like mine, and one that had the normal single LED under the test button. I guess that the 202’s all have the separate alarm LED.

My first house had Probe 202’s. From a pic I have that has the downstairs alarm in it, it doesn’t look like it has the separate LED though. It’s not the clearest pic though. I believe they have the same Kobishi horn as the old FireXes, but they don’t sound quite as growly as the FireXes IMO. My last house used to have FireX FX1020’s, and they sounded awful. And wicked loud.

Since we now have a vid of a Probe 201, I’ll try to upload a vid of my BRK 1839ACI soon.

I bet the 1839ACI sounds like either the SA769AC, since from what I can tell, they appear to have the same horns. Or it could sound like the 1769ACI since they have the same suffix and are from around the same time period

Look what I got yesterday!

Just saw your video of that SA76RS. Nice!

Boy, ESL sure made a lot of different alarms back in the day. I’m tempted to buy that AC ESL alarm, but it’s a bit expensive for me.

Now this one stumps me. I saw this picture on instagram and can’t find any info on it whatsoever. The user who posted it sent me a testing vid, and it also as a squealer horn. The little light lights up steady when the test button is pressed. It kind of looks like a rebranded Pyrotector Smoke Sentinel.
Brand name: Oster

Do you have still have the video of this alarm? Is there a way to view it on here. A neighbour of mine had one of these in there house years ago. The test button and light appears to be the same one on the old Dicon alarms from around the same time as this. Probably between 1976 and 1978. My parents had the Dicon in their house for years until they replaced it in 1997. I still regret taking the alarm. The squealer on that was absolutely atrocious sounding. Would have made an awesome collectors item and there are no videos of that alarm here or anywhere else online from what I know. There appears to be no info on the Oster or Dicon alarms from that time.

Unfortunately I can’t figure out how to post instagram videos on here. It has a higher pitched squealer horn sound to it. Also, I didn’t know Dicon made alarms in this style.
