I meant what it’s hooked to wire-wise, heh, but alright, definitely not a good way of mounting it though.
Why exactly? You know it’s a smoke detector whether you know the exact make or model or not.

Oh…. It’s hardwired as seen in the 2nd image.
Why do you ask? It’s just good to know the model of it.
Also, I found 5 of these BRK 86RACs in my former aunt’s house (who is unfortunately now underground), but I’m convinced that my dad’s a hardcore arsonist because he’s being VERY stubborn, won’t spend anything on new alarms just to “save money” (which can’t be true if the house burns to the ground and beyond), and now won’t listen to a thing that I say about replacing these. And even worse: is that someone was actually thinking about living in this house, and I need to ensure their own safety is protected. Yet my dad clearly couldn’t care less.
Yes, I know that, as that’s a detector meant to be wired, but what I mean is what is it hooked to with said wire?
Fair enough, heh.
Sheesh…not only is it imperative they be replaced to help ensure the continued safety of the house’s occupants, but they would of course be excellent to preserve too. Isn’t there anything you can do to make sure that happens? (including buying & installing new detectors yourself, which is what I’ve done for several people (only if you know what you’re doing though of course)
Not only is it bad that they won’t have good smoke detection with those alarms, but they probably don’t have any CO protection.
They do have 2 CO alarms, one in the basement and one in the master bedroom.
…electricity. Perhaps the explosion-causing type of electricity considering the install
Oh my God…is it hooked to a security panel? This is what I meant by “what is it hooked to?” (probably is given where it is).
The house doesn’t have a security panel in it, so I don’t think it’s hooked to any fire/security system
Oh? Then what do you suppose could be connected to it if not that? (especially since these kinds of detectors are really meant for use with fire alarm or security panels, since they don’t have a built-in sounder the way standalone residential detectors do)
I’m not exactly sure where the power is coming from either.
Alright, great! Not working? Why do you think? (are you going by it being one of the ones who’s LED wasn’t lit?)
Will you be getting the other 4 out as well?
It wasn’t connected to power so there wasn’t really any point in having it up there, and yeah I could tell because the LED wasn’t glowing
I currently don’t know if I’ll be getting the other four, so I’ll have to wait and see.
Oh, okay. You got the power connector & mounting bracket with that particular 86RAC, right? (though I’m baffled as to how it could have come unhooked from AC power to begin with) Isn’t there also another 86RAC that’s not receiving power going by your photos?
Oh, alright, hope you do though! Does the one you have right now work?
Oh, by the way: any plans on replacing the one you took down? (which is of course important)
No, but I think the harnesses from my 4120Bs should fit the connector for this alarm.
I’d thought there was, but I later searched the house again and found the rest of them were working for whatever reason.
I just tested it with a battery, it works
Why would you have not gotten the power connector with it? (& the bracket too I’m assuming) Were you not the one who took it down?
Oh? That’s odd then considering the photos you posted show two 86RACs with non-glowing LEDs, rather than just one.
Ah, nice!
There wasn’t any wiring harness in the outlet box. Thankfully, BRK harnesses are standardized so the 4120B harness works with the 86RAC. Awesome job, BRK!
Wait what? That’s odd, wonder how that happened…(would explain why it didn’t have power though, heh)
Sort of: I’ve had to use the connector from a 9120B I formerly owned with my 1839WN because it didn’t come with the original connector, but it doesn’t fit as good as the actual original one.
Hi, I recently started online home searching on Zillow. here’s the rarest things I’ve found:
Ademco 580!? this is the best angle I can get so I don’t know for sure.
Some sort of Visuentae (I don’t know how you spell it)
Early Gard EGD-4 I think
First Alert SA120
Dicon
Another Dicon
FB-1
A third Dicon
Amway
I have 2 just like this but they are branded first alert (which also gives them a different model number). I do kinda wish mine were BRK branded but hey, Im just happy to have the ones I have.
