I had one yesterday. First Period. We evacuated the entire building in a minute thirty. Not bad.
Well, there have been no fire drills since last week. I guess they wanted them over with.
Pointless, if you ask me. What’s the point of fire drills if you have them so close together?
Yeah, I never realized that until I learned about it in my program this year.
In the State of Oklahoma,
No less than two (2) fire drills are required per school year and this drill must be performed within the first fifteen (15) days of each school semester.
This is actually how the department of reslife schedules their drills. Of course, we’ve already had three impromptu “drills” in my res hall, so we should be good until the next semester.
I find it interesting that Oklahoma is far more lenient than Texas. You would think that the bare minimum would be at least once every other month. I suppose this is to give the impression that any instance of a fire alarm sounding should be taken seriously if it isn’t within the first fifteen days of the semester.

The community college I attend stopped conducting fire drills years and years ago. Though they are a state institution, they are registered as a business just so they don’t have to do them. And as much as I’d like to have fire alarms blaring every month, I think it’s better this way. Back when they did fire drills, students would just ignore the alarm. Now they take it much more seriously.
Manitoba law requires every school to perform 10 fire drills per year, while district policy requires 2 lockdown drills per year, one in each semester. The school I attended K-7 at was the only school I’ve been where they’ve conducted all 10. There would usually only be 2 or 3 before November when the snow flies, so we’d have 7 or 8 between April and June.
The highest frequency of actual fire drills we’ve had was 2 in the course of 2 days. For one of those, there was a silent drill immediately afterwards, since we apparently messed up the first time.
At the MS I attended grade 8 at, we only had one fire drill, which was at the end of September. We had a code red (lockdown) drill in November, plus a false fire alarm in April and a code red drill with the fire alarm in May. (The alarm was set off to see if any classes evacuated.)
My current HS had only three fire drills last year: one in October and two in the same week in April. We also had lockdown drills without fire alarms in those same two weeks, as well as two false fire alarms in October and May.
