The Anti-Fire Alarm Trashing Police (TAFATP)

I think it was that one devicical posted in Fails.

Specifically this devicical.

Either the strobe fell off or someone ripped it off, hence the missing wire.

Oh, that, huh. Jeez though…

How did the one strobe wire go missing if it’s present there?

It was just that badly damaged

And Juz the Jeez! :skull:

Also here’s what’s remaining of the devicical.

Yeah, but the red strobe wire is clearly present in that photo, yet it’s not present in the latest one of the strobe half of the device, so where it is/what happened to it & how/why?

Hope the rest is recovered, even if the whole thing’s smashed to bits (since the way I see it any device is worth saving, even ones that aren’t in one piece).

That’s a question for @bentheidioticnerd1.

You’re absolutely right. Although the devicical has seen better days, it can be rebuilt into a custom alarm thing.

You could possibly remold the remains in a way so the Strobe can be mounted to the front of the Horn similar to a Gentex GMS or a Siemens U-HN.

I recently demoed seven (7) Fike SHP and SHP Pro panels from a building downtown that was undergoing an upgrade. I also got the original fire sprinkler pump control panel. Would have gone in the dumpster otherwise. Couple of the original SHP boards appear to be burned up but the Pros seem fine.

I suppose 3D-printing a new shell is also an option (though of course obviously a 3D printer would be needed & where you’d get the “FIRE” & Simplex logo decals from & how you’d apply them I would have no idea).

Great! Thanks for your contributions to preservation efforts!

We finished the Public Safety Building in Morristown TN, now on to the Expo Center which I’m finna check out sometime this week.

You should look for a replacement shell online

I’m aware this topic has been floating around for a while, but I just read a few posts from @Randomnicious here and I just wanted to ask, What makes you feel that enthusiasts are obligated to obtain fire alarm devices that get removed from buildings? I wanted to ask because I was kind of confused, it just seems a little selfish. No one deserves anything. I think if you become aware of an upcoming replacement, you could ask the techs if they can save a few things for you, but like I said, at the end of the day, there is absolutely zero obligated that old devices need to go in to collectors hands. This reminds me of a certain user to argued about a late collector’s collection and how it should be donated to museams or other collectors.

I’m not just helping out myself in the matter. I am also helping out other collectors. People don’t get stuff because people throw stuff away, thus why some stuff is rare and hard to get.

Well don’t just go by what he’s saying: I for one understand that not everyone will be willing to cooperate with this “mission”, but we still try to get what we can (& in the most polite way possible as well).

Probably another case of signals in a gym not having covers to protect them for whatever reason.

Uh, no? Brittle plastic or not, any device can be damaged when hit by something, which is what protective covers are designed to avoid.

There you go, & if we don’t at least try to save this stuff then who will?
