So now we have 5 members, including myself.
All my alarms but the one I already shared were salvaged from my house. As I was replacing my lifesaver 1205
My grandfather said to throw it away.
I did not throw it away. If I can’t save a certain alarm, I at least document it in some way. Count me in as well!
I hope that that’ll be rare (if not nonexistent), but good effort on your part!
By the way, I might have come up with a much shorter, much simpler, & more professional-sounding name for this effort/organization/group: Life Safety Savers (it’s kinda unprofessional-sounding but at least it makes use of alliteration, & it does (sort of) also accurately reflect what they do)
6 people omguh. Okay that’s becoming a thing now.
Again, I may change the name in the future when I want to, don’t worry. That’s a good suggestion tho.
oh hell, count me in. I got my middle school portables alarms
Seven now. Okay we’re growing
I don’t think SpectrAlerts and BG-12 pulls being thrown away is a big issue. Throwing away rare or vintage alarms is something else.
Exactly
. However I care about all alarms
So do I, & if the newer devices aren’t saved now there might come a day when there are no examples left as a result (which is the case for the old & rare devices there are already).
Yes, exactly right! So while that crappy “new Kidde logo” smoke detector you have may not be uncommon now, something may happen and it becomes rare.
There you go: what’s common today is rare tomorrow (in a sense).
my schools portables had 4903’s.
I’m gonna make a gc with all members here.
Im joining. Get me in that gc! How do i save fire alarms tho?
It’s very simple: you do your absolute dangdest to make sure any & all life safety devices you come across are preserved (which includes notification appliances (NAs) (bells, buzzers, sirens, klaxons, speakers, horns, strobes, horn/strobes, horn/lights, bell/strobes, speaker/strobes, beacons, lights, light plates, & strobe plates), fire alarm control panels, initiating devices (CO, duct, flame, heat, propane, & smoke detectors & manual pull stations), addressable modules, exit signs, emergency lights, NAC extenders, voice panels, annunciators & keypads, releasing panels, & more (including ADA pull station adapters, detector, NA, & pull station guards & covers, relays, terminal cabinets, sounder bases, & backbox cover plates).
I know about that but i dont know if i am allowed to get fire alarms out of dumpsters and stuff. ( i know im cautious). Or how to get ahold of stuff that isnt in a dumpster.
I’ve never pulled Alarms out of Dumpsters, but I’d assume that since the Alarms are in the dumpster, you can have them because whoever threw them in there probably didn’t want them anymore. And like they say, “One man’s trash is another person’s treasure.”
