What alarm is this?

It says “heat detector - not a life safety device” on it and also says that in Spanish. Interesting that they have a bilingual label on a heat detector.

It says “NOT A LIFE SAFETY DEVICE” due to heat detectors responding much slower to fires than smoke detectors, thus they’re not fit/meant for saving lives because of that. It’s likely also written in French rather than Spanish since Edwards makes bilingual English/French devices for the Canadian market (which is a big market of theirs in addition to the US & elsewhere).

Yes, I guess it is written in French.

The school had a fire drill this morning. The fire alarms never sounded. They just made a PA announcement saying something like “This is a fire drill. Everyone is to report to their assigned evacuation areas.”

Interestingly, some classes are evacuating to a different area than they usually would due to construction of a new wing to the school which will replace the portable classrooms that the school currently has. The kids are not allowed to go to the construction area during fire drills which is where they would normally evacuate to.

Another school that does that? (unless it’s the same one) They really should sound the alarms off next time (heck that may actually be required).

Shouldn’t everyone leave the building entirely when the fire alarm sounds?

Everyone does leave the school building during fire drills.

However there is a construction area where classes are not allowed to evacuate to during fire drills. They have to evacuate to a different outside area than they normally would. Custodians and cafeteria workers are allowed to go to the construction area during drills.

Well that makes absolutely no sense given the safest place to be during a fire is obviously out of the building in question: normally the evacuation spot would be outside the building, but for some reason that clearly-not-too-bright (to put it politely) school district has decided that a room inside the school would be best suited for that task instead! What is wrong with these people…

They are not evacuating to a room inside the school.

The classes that would normally evacuate to the driver’s education area are currently evacuating to the bus area instead during fire drills due to construction work going on in the area of the driver’s ed range.

Oh, okay, my mistake. Still doesn’t excuse the rest of the drill not being done properly though.

Fire alarm NA

Where an NA from the school’s old fire alarm system was.

Where a pull station with a stopper cover was from the old system. The school’s new fire alarm system has no outdoor pull stations. All the areas where pull stations existed outdoors with the old system got plated up.
