TBH, if they decided to redo the 7002T, it would probably look like a 34T with a ZNS strobe put through the middle with rounding done to “modernize” the body of the horn. If I had to guess, the model number would probably be Wheelock MHS (mechanical horn/strobe) or MH (mechanical horn).
Sadly, skipping probably wouldn’t happen.

I always pictured an updated 7002T looking like an AS with a 34T grille. And yeah, skipping wouldn’t really fly today when code-3 is the norm.
The 7002T actually came out in the late 1970s along with the 7002; the only difference is the “T” models having terminals instead of wire leads. In 1985, the grille was redesigned to be vandal-resistant, and the 7002 was discontinued shortly thereafter.
Anyways, this thread is five years old; but Wheelock isn’t bringing back electromechanical horns for fire alarm notification appliances since they draw more current than electronic horns, which is one of the reasons they stopped production of the 7002T in 1994.
The reason for the skipping on the 7001(T) and 7002(T) series is because of the parasitic strobe. The strobe is wired in series with the horn’s coil and depends on the opening an closing of the horn contacts to generate oscillation, and thus can not operate without the horn. Because of this, every time the strobe flashes, it draws current from the horn, causing the horn to make a skipping sound.
The 34T was also discontinued along with the 7002T in 1994. A big reason Wheelock stopped making mechanical horns is that they draw more power than electronic horns, which is what they wanted to mainly focus on from then on. The MT was already in production; and later, the AS and NS were released in 1995 and 1998, respectively. Besides, mechanical horns were waning in popularity during the '90s. There were some models like the Gentex GMS and Simplex 4903-9200 series, but those weren’t very popular at all.
Only the 31T remains in production to this day, mainly as a general signaling device; however, the red 31T can be used as a fire alarm notification appliance when mounted on an ADA strobe plate or next to an ADA remote strobe.
