Last year my girlfriend went from a dorm to an off campus apartment. I visit her all the time. There were a few false alarms when I was there that were from hallway smoke detectors. One time it smelled like cooking smoke. One time it may have been from cigarette smoking. My girlfriend doesn't want smoking in her apartment so when she has friends over some of them that smoke go in the hallway. I always went outside to smoke just because it stinks up the building and I made the other smokers go outside with me (I stopped smoking about a year ago by the way). One time the alarm went off when there was smoking in the hallway (although not from my girlfriend's guests). Since then management has been increasing enforcement against smoking and sent notices to all the tenants and increased security. Despite the false alarms my girlfriend likes it there, there were probably the same amount of false alarms in the dorms.
