My High School's Old Fire Alarm Coding

Hey everyone

My high school used to have a weird fire alarm pattern before it was renovated. The school was built in 1969, and it had an Edwards system (I’m pretty sure) with the classic Edwards pulls and the flush-mount Fire Horns. It was like 60 BPM March Time, but it was interrupted, like a watch alarm. Instead of going BZZZZZ…BZZZZZ…, it went BZZBZZ…BZZBZZ… I don’t think it was a coded system. Have any of you guys heard of this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

A temporal pattern?

A.K.A. Code 3

  • = sounding
    _ = inactive

+++++++++ (repeat)

I think the cadence in question is more like this (for the musically inclined):

Correct me if I’m wrong, please.

Yes. Just like that.

Watch alarms tend to sound in Code 2.

“beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep” “beep beep”
