4008 panel failure

Hey everyone! My first post here. I am an electrician and have just started on a fire alarm repair. The building I am working on had a fire that burned the 2nd floor hallway. All the devices on that floor burnt up. I rewired the floor and replaced the devices. I figured out all my little problems basically wrong dip switch settings as there were no drawings of original install. Long story short I had a card 4 I/o error. I checked all ribbon connections etc and connected the batteries. When I connected the positive and a small arc happened and the display went blank and all LEDs lit up. Any ideas?

Possible polarity reversal with the batteries &/or charge. Also did you keep existing idnet wiring in place? Typically display is the first to go on those panels. If able to power up and you start seeing hieroglyph-like symbols CPU is on its way out.
