I saw these at a old school that I was at for a robotics competition I saw this simplex 4037 and a system sensor SPSWL speaker strobe that I beleve to have been installed over the summer when the school was renovated.
I did not see any pull stations for some reason.
The 4037 is the rare flush mount version of the 4030. (these old horns were made by Benjamin and were the predecessor to the 4040’s).
I was suprized to see it im gonna try to get it if it gets removed
Great!
Important: These horns have several models that may run on a different voltages so if you get ahold of one of them make sure you carefully read the label to determine the correct voltage.
for sure. I forgot to add that I did see spots where a pull might have been that were covered with plates.
Just curious: is there only one 4037 left or are there a lot of them strewn about?
I ask because I’ve seen a few systems that had one random disconnected device sitting around but none that had everything still there.
In public schools and other public institutions, contracted work is generally done by the bid - and the cheapest one wins, so this installer likely didn’t include removing all the old horns within the scope of work.
That horn could be for class change notification or something.
It’s way too loud for that… they’d use bells or chimes for this. (These days, class changes are generally indicated by a tone on the overhead page.)
Oh I know. I’m just suggesting that it may not be for fire. I’d think that if it was for fire, it would be red.
my friend goes to this school he said that they were used for fire
be sure to get the backbox for the 4037, since those are rarer than the alarm itself. Old School Fire Alarms has salvaged those alarms with their back boxes. The auditorium building on the campus of the Ohio State ATI in Wooster has the same exact alarms on a Simplex 4240 system from the mid-60s. I was there for my cousin’s graduation. Go to the topic I started about OSFA’s website under the contact page.
I will try to save both
You may need a chisel for the wall housing, if not all you need to do is remove some conduit connectors and a few screws that hold the backbox in the wall.
