That could POSSIBLY be a chime/strobe given the tone it produces, but it’s pretty rare that it is one.

Ah, that brings back some memories for me. I once came across an alarm system that flashed the exit signs, but they flashed at a much faster rate (march time speed).

I wonder which one that was?
Hmm, come to think of it, so far I’ve never come across a fire alarm system that has flashed the exit signs. That’s actually pretty cool!

The only other time I have seen something like this (and was mentioned in the Alarms on TV/Movies topic) was in the Rugrats episode “Grandpa Moves Out”; in the chase scene, Didi slips on marbles and is forced into pushing open a fire door, setting of a bell in continuous and the exit sign is briefly seen flashing red.

It was at a local mall during a system test. The mall has since been rennovated and gotten a new alarm system. IDK if the signs flash anymore when the alarm goes off.

Some language
The whooping sound you hear on the PA system is what the fire alarm sounded like when I was in primary school. From Pre-K to 3rd grade, every time the fire alarm rang, we would hear the tone on the PA. Instead of the AS or MT, we had Faradays that would buzz like the integrity. They disabled the tone on the PA in 4th grade when they couldn’t get it to sound right. I could not even begin to describe how wierd it sounded when we had our first drill in 4th grade.
