Alarms on TV/Movies

The Dexter’s Laboratory episode “Trapped With a Vengeance” (this comes right before the infamous “parrot” episode) features some janitor who is sick of Dexter always staying late after school and making big messes from his experiments for the janitor to clean up, so he traps Dexter in the classroom while Dexter must return home to save his lab from Dee-Dee destroying it. He notices the fire alarm pull station in the classroom (just a generic red box with “FIRE ALARM” and a small glass thingy in the center), and gets an idea. He pulls the alarm and sets off a bunch of alarm bells in Continuous; the bells appear on the video screens in the janitors’ office too, and the fire department instantly pulls up in front of the school. “Yes, yes! Dexter, you are a genius!” he says. The janitor hurries to the main door, and tells the fire department that it was “just a glitch in the system!” “Roger that,” the fire chief smiles and they drive off, thus creating a perfect distraction for Dexter to begin crawling through the air vents.

There is also an episode of “The Powerpuff Girls” entitled “Down N’ Dirty” where Buttercup refuses to take a bath and keeps smelling more and more awful after defeating various villains. So when she goes to the Pokey Oakes Kindergarten one day smelling like this, everyone is shocked and distressed by the foul odor, and the Ms. Keane can’t stand it at all either, so she smashes her fist into a break-glass alarm station and sets off a 10-inch bell in Continuous and says quickly “Whaddaya know, kids, a fire drill. I guess we’d better get out of here.” All the kids cheer happily and run for the exit door, as Ms. Keane says “Buttercup, you stay!” and goes out with the kids.

The “Lockdown” episode “Newbies” has Integrities. They can be seen in the intro and even heard. It’s on the National Geographic Channel.

Not sure if this really counts, but the classic Speed Racer episode “The Man Behind the Mask” features some museum owned by the great Meglaton (the villain in the episode), with priceless works of art that was stolen hidden here. He explains that the museum is prone to any disaster, and as he mentions “Neither earthquake nor fire can destroy the museum!” Spritle nearly pushes a button, to which Meglaton warns not to push it as it is for a fire suppression system. “In case of fire we push this button and the entire chamber becomes filled with carbonate gas which smothers the fire instantly.” he explains. Later on in the episode, the museum DOES catch fire in an attempt by Meglaton to destroy the hideout, and Speed Racer activates the halon system and puts out the blaze.

On the G1 Transformers episode “The Ultimate Doom, Part 1” Spike activates the Ark’s fire retardant foam to drive the Decepticons out. It also activates a klaxon-like fire alarm sound.

Tonight on “Curb Your Enthuasium” on HBO Larry was in a store trying on pants and the fire alarm sounded. It was a slow whoop sound. They had to stay outside and when he asked how long they said about 2 hours. So Larry left with the pants on that he was trying on with the security tag still attached

On Tonight’s Storm Chasers there’s a Commander 2/3/4 heard in C3 as a news report is covering damage in Denver.

I know; it reminded me of the Simplex 4051 horns at the Davis K-8 school!

But speaking of that movie, in Jamie’s school during the karate class scene, you can see some kind of Simplex T-bar pull in the background, it appears to be either a 2099-9754 or 2099-9795.

I saw it while I was in Cali, and as U8oL0 said, there was plenty of Simplex action to be had! Again, there were the horizontal 4903s, vertical 4903s and the 2902-9739 Life-Alarm speaker/strobes, just like tpirman1982’s!

Here’s a nice close-up image. I’ll be buying the DVD soon, so I’ll get a direct screen-grab.

It seems as if the terrorists spliced in to the EVAC system, since the box they used was red.

Also in Planes Trains and Automobiles there is a Code One CD-1 (or equivalent) smoke in the first hotel room that Steve Martin and John Candy stay in. You can clearly see it on the wall behind them as they’re talking/arguing, and you even get to see its LED flash, showing that it was an actual working unit that they used, not just a case or some prop.

Also there was some movie (maybe a 007 one?) in the 80s where a smoke alarm/ security system went off. The smoke was a 3500 Hz continuous blast, and the other alarm was a beep-beep-beep-beep! type sound (like an alarm clock). Also a guy says, IIRC, “those darn smoke alarms” or something to that effect. (He was smoking)

I remember in the movie “Paycheck” there were several alarms throughout. I specifically remember seeing a Edwards 270 and some Integrities. There was also a smoke alarm too. There were probably more alarms, but it’s been at least 5 years since I saw the movie.

I was watching the news while ago, and i remember watching this:

This is a device called a mosquito, which is supposed to be used where teens hang out and places that get vandalised. Kinda looks like a white Wheelock EH.

I remember seeing one of those on the news before. My ears must be shot to hell 'cause I could never here the mosquito sound.

we need a few of those where I work, especially right in the foyer in front of the Redbox. That would make my nights jut a bit better  .

Yep, that’s a Wheelock ET vandal-resistant speaker. It’s probably just connected to a battery-operated tone generator inside the backbox.

In Season 3 of the Fox Reality channel show The Academy, there are BG-12s in the classroom building of Recruit Class 36. I can’t see any NAs but I assume they’re Spectras since they’re almost always paired with BG-12s. Also in episode 8 there is an AS at an elementary school classroom one of the fire-fighters visits. The show focuses on Orange County Fire Authority’s Recruit Class 36, whereas seasons 1&2 focused on Sheriff training. I’ve been watching it on Hulu. this is is a good show, even though there are no real fire alarms since they’re in the academy and not out in the field.

Been watching more SWAT on Hulu. S1E1 is quite alarm-packed! First a 3000 Hz alarm can be heard in a house. It sounds like a smoke in continuous, but SWAT didn’t use any flashbangs (at least what I saw)

SpectrAlerts can be seen (taped up) in the Mansfield Medical Office Building.
The first can be seen in the doctor’s office at 22:14.
Then one in a hall along with a smoke can be seen at 22:25
Then a zoomed out shot of the office alarm can be seen again a 22:56

Then in the same ep, on a drug raid mission, once again a flashbang triggers a smoke in C3.

-Backdraft (1991)
Several 6" bells (looked like Potter) could be seen and heard in the fire stations.
At the high-rise scene, a 10" bell in continuous and an AC horn in slow march could be heard.
…and for the siren people, Model Q sirens on the fire trucks.

Here’s the screen grab.

Just saw an AS in a Fidelity commercial.

Live Free or Die Hard:

Several horns, sirens and whoops can be heard when the anthrax alarms sound.
At Woodlawn, a SpectrAlert and a 7002T can be heard.
