Alarms on TV/Movies

Kitchen Nightmares

Chiarella’s restaurant in Philadelphia has SpectrAlert classic horn/strobes, Mircom Select-A-Horn/strobes, and unknown pull stations (they have a slight resemblance to Mircom, however).

No actual alarm, but the 3/20 airing of Family Feud, one of the dads was a FA/sprinkler system designer/installer.

Kitchen Nightmares

The Zocalo restaurant has AS horn/strobes w/ unknown pull stations (possibly Mircom).

I only post here when I see an alarm while watching TV, but I don’t watch TV just to see alarms.
Family Guy: fast times at buddy cianci jr. high

In the top, center. Looks similar to one of those “4050-80” style remote lights.

Buddy Cianci Jr. High…classic.

I remember this SIREN from when I was young:

In Pee Wee’s Playhouse, an ACA Allertor can be heard when he is launching his scooter before the credits.

That’s definitely from the Gumby movie from 1995. A while afterward, when in the same building seen in that video, the evil Gumby robot places the frozen Goo in a cool room of some sort, and when he leaves an alarm bell begins ringing in Continuous (apparently to notify our heroes that the culprit had struck.)

Food, Inc.

A scene towards the beginning has either a white RSS or ET70 speaker/strobe, and an unmarked MS-6 pull station.

Please tell me you’re not watching movies ONLY to look for alarms… lol

Minority Report

Near the beginning of the movie, there is a brief hostage scene w/ two men; during this scene, a hi-lo alarm sounds.

I should add also that in the scene taking place inside the Gap store, there is a GX-90 horn/strobe that can be seen briefly in the background.

The Big Bang Theory:
Outside of the laundry room in the hallway there is a Wheelock WST-24 with an Edwards 270-SPO below it.

Not The Nine O’Clock News:

In the British sketch comedy show “Not The Nine O’Clock News,” in the Fire Station sketch, the firefighters hear a bell ring and then we see the bell which looks like the bell in the photo, only it has a round gray base and says “Made in England” on it on the plate. The firefighters put their helmets and turnout gear on and slide down the fireman’s pole but when they hit bottom the bell is still ringing. Reveal a “SNOOZE” sign next to a button, and one of the firefighters pushes it. It turns out to be the snooze alarm!

Reversal

Near the end of the movie in a gymnasium where several people are gathered, what could possibly be a white MA/SS horn/strobe is in the background on the wall (it blends in with the wall color).

iCarly:

In “iGet Detention,” Carly is waiting to pull the fire alarm in order to get detention. It is an Edwards 270-SPO. She tries to several times, but hesitates. She takes a piece of wrapped food out of her lunchbag and launches it at the wall. It misses the pull station as she covers her ears. Finally, she takes a banana out and throws it at the handle. The fire alarm goes off (it is not shown, but it is heard, possibly a 6" bell) and a teacher comes out and says “Who pulled that fire alarm?” Carly timidly replies “Me…” to which the teacher says, "Thank goodness you did. The microwave in the teacher’s lounge was on fire! And a guy comes out carrying a flaming microwave.

The Teen Zone: The Truth About Drinking

District 9 Medical Office has a 7002T-24 horn/strobe on a trim plate, a Faraday horn/strobe or strobe, and what appears to be an MS-51 pull station; this is same medical office from Dr. G: Medical Examiner.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSjW4NWpADA - From WUSA-TV in D.C.–a 10" bell in continuous goes off during the weather report. I find it unique that a stand-alone bell would be featured in an American studio as opposed to a Canadian studio, where bells are much more common in the latter.

The Party Never Stops

Some shots of the interior of the college have older Mircom pull stations w/ Mircom heat detectors.

I saw the ep again tonight on USA. It’s called “Cover Story” and the smoke is actually a http://www.firstalert.com/detectors/battery/photoelectric/sa720cn First Alert SA720, with its light actually working. The firefighter makes a motion as if he’s going to open the battery drawer but doesn’t, but the foley/sound artists actually recorded the sound of the drawer being pulled out. When I first watched it, I didn’t have my glasses on so I made a guess which turned out to be bad.

Apollo 13

There is a brief sound of a mechanical horn as the crew are about to board a part of the rocket.

The first dream sequence of the movie has a part where a red “MASTER ALARM” pulsates on and off accompanied by an alarm in march time(?).

Edward Scissorhands

In the night burglary scene, a fast, descending wail sounds when Edward gets trapped.

The whole point of this topic was to point out fire alarms in tv/movie productions mainly when they actually have a role in the plot, such as a system that goes off. Many sets are real buildings with alarm systems, and if the alarms are seen in the background but only briefly, I don’t think there’s really a need to mention them here. Posting about the random “Hollywood” sound effects heard in tons of movies is excessive. It’s like posting every time you hear the “Re d Alert” signal in Star Trek (almost every episode). But the 4030 sounding in Tomorrow is Yesterday (episode) | Memory Alpha | Fandom this Star Trek TOS episode is point-out-able.
