The most frequent alarm I see on TV is the 270-SPO pull station.
That would be because they are an iconic pull station. I remember about several months ago i sold a few of them to a production company, as it read on the shipping label.
Theyâre also inexpensive and can be ordered from most electrical suppliers.
Iâve sold many as props, too. I think the reason why is they are very common and have been produced for a long time so they blend in with a lot of time periods. Theyâre also cheap.

Yeah. I did a search and you can get one online for under $20. Whatâs crazy is how many places in Canada are still installing them.
EST still has them in their product line. Itâs one of the longest-running pull station lines ever, and I donât see it being discontinued anytime soon. As long as thereâs still a demand for them, whether it be in buildings or movie or TV sets, EST will sell them, and theyâll sell them cheap.
Was the test button white or clear? Also it was probably dubbed as both alarms had piezos (I had a FG888D in my old house that was quite a nuisance).
The test button was clear. I had a feeling the sound was dubbed because any of those Family Gards I have ever come across had piezos. I never found piezos annoying. Squealers on the other hand were downright annoying and scary sounding. No way to ignore them and they always got the job done in getting attention.

Itâs an FG888D then. And I grew up with squeakers so Iâd much rather have those than piezos ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ but thatâs just my 2¢
Oh okay I never knew they were different models much less the test buttons but I take it the FG777D is the earlier model. Learn something every day. I guess everyone is different. I grew up with those darn squeakers and was freaked out mainly by my parents Dicon. They also had a Sears early one and a Westclox smoke signal. Which ones did you have in your house? Even though I never liked how they sounded I think they were way more effective in getting ones attention. The Dicon had a very high pitched squeal that would make anyone jump 10 feet in the air. No way to ignore it.

Thanks and yep I have seen that video before. Not a very pleasant sound thatâs for sure. But that would definitely get ones attention.
On the âGirl Meets Worldâ episode âGirl Meets True Maya,â the fire alarm goes off in the school on the show. They show a newer Wheelock MT horn/strobe with the strobe flashing, but they used the sound of a 10" bell ringing in Continuous. That was REALLY inaccurate. They shouldâve at least shown a bell/strobe flashing, or dub in the sound of a Wheelock MT horn. Maya is blamed for setting off the alarm, but then itâs announced on the intercom that it was just a problem with the alarm system.
Hey, on a show called âBetter Call Saulâ I found a Simplex 4100ES in a black-ish cabinet with a huge screen :D. I also saw them use an EST Quickstart as a lighting control panel -_- xD
Amazon Echo short - been appearing on TV as a compilation of the others.
Anyway it has a 5/6 smoke alarm SFX.
In the episode âAdam Ruins Housingâ of Adam Ruins Everything during the part about AirBNB he pulls some type of Simplex TBar and also pulls a sprinkler out of the ceiling. No alarm sounds nor does any water flow when the sprinkler is removed, although the guys reaction is kind of funny

Hi everyone, I recently purchased the complete second season (1977/1978) of Eight Is Enough and one of the episodes titled Children Of The Groom part 2 (original airdate November 9th, 1977) features a brief scene with what I do believe is an old Honeywell TC49 smoke detector. Most likely a battery unit but hard to tell. The sound it makes as sounds like it is dubbed in. I would love to post this video on here but I donât know exactly how to transfer video from a DVD onto my computer. I have tried though. If someone can help me that is great. This is probably the earliest that smoke detectors have appeared on TV shows or movies at least from what I have seen. I could be wrong though. Sometime next month I will get getting the complete third season of this show and there is another episode titled You Wonât Have Nicholas To Kick Around Anymore (original airdate November 29th, 1978) that features a GE Home Sentry. Not sure of the exact model though but is the square unit with the red test button and the sound is definitely dubbed in on this one. I would love to post that video when the time comes. I grew up watching the original series of Eight Is Enough (1977-1981). So far I only have the first two seasons.
A recent commercial for Cotton Tails toilet paper has a Simplex 4090-2 6" bell going off at the start.
