Alarms on TV/Movies

In the mall in Stranger Things, I noticed some TrueAlert speaker/strobes

I saw Simplex 2902 Speaker Strobe in “Here Comes The Boom” (2011)

I just remembered this. In an episode of iCarly, the one where Carly is trying to get detention, she tries pulling what I believe was an Edwards 270-SPO by throwing a banana at it first before actually pulling it, but she didn’t get in trouble because the microwave in the teachers lounge caught fire.

Someone already noted that instance here, but yes.

not sure if this counts, but a newer single action 4099 pull station was in dhar mann. of course, when pulled, edwards integrities went off.

Edwards 78 in Hotel Hell S1E6

Was watching Carter High and a kid pulled a 270-SPO and a tone that sounded like a security alarm sounded while you could clearly see a Spectralert Classic that was sitting silent in the background. The SPO had to have been unhooked.

Speaking of Hotel Hell, Gordan Ramsay himself pulled a FCI MS-2 after he discovered harmful amounts of bacteria everywhere and the whole place was unsanitary. The system consists of bells on continuous without any strobes. This was in the Brick Hotel episode 6 of season 3.

Honestly I first thought the system wasn’t gonna work but quite good to know it does work.

I was looking at civil defense films from the 50’s and one of them had a Simplex 4030-2 in it.

There’s an episode of Abott & Costello where Costello tries to get arrested to get a free dentist appointment, and one of the things he does is pull some kind of gamewell fire alarm box, but instead saves a woman’s house.

In an episode of The Simpsons you can see some melted System Sensor i3s

What episode and timestamp?

Those look way too accurate for the artists to not be going off of a real i3.

Was watching The Emperor’s Club and faintly saw a System Sensor MASS ADA blended into the wall.

Condsidering most pulls are honeywell s464as (as seen by the lobby elevator), i would assume a few things:

  1. the RSG pull station is not connected, and just the lights were lit on the annunciator.
  2. that was a connected pull station, but the system relies on the guy at the front desk announcing to only the floors near the point of activation that there is a fire.

I think they actually faked it. The “behind the scenes” video shows that the T-bar wasn’t actually connected anywhere, and the strobes were probably faked. If the integrities were actually that densely packed to flash that frequent and bright then the horns wouldn’t sound so distant.

This American Express Business Platinum podcast commercial I’ve heard at work two days in a row now has a scoreboard buzzer that sounds exactly like the Simplex 4040 horns at my high school (at the 0:08 mark)…

Both times, I actually screamed and had an anxiety attack, due to PTSD from my traumatic high school fire drills. Fortunately my boss was pretty understanding, compared to my classmates teasing and laughing at me, and the dean of the building section I was in nearly suspending me over it.

It almost sounds like a Gentex Commander as well with the scoreboard buzzer, although they’d be mostly made by Federal Signal.

Was watching Star Trek: Picard season 2 episode 1. The USS Star Gazer’s red alert tone also has an Advance sounding temp 4 mixed in on the decks below the bridge.

In Trolls 2 World Tour right before the pop trolls have to get away from the vinyl records that are chasing them. You can hear the standard slow whoop tone that is used in many fire alarm systems. Particularly the ones in Australia/New Zealand in their full alarm stage.
