This is for anyone here that’s not a technician themselves. Does anyone have relatives that work on fire alarm systems, or are in the business?
My Dad is not a tech, but is a chief engineer and maintains several ComEd buildings. He does have keys, and can change settings on the fire alarm systems when work needs to be done on other building systems, or maintenance or construction is going on. In addition, the alarms that his buildings have removed make up about 2/4 of my collection, thanks to him bringing them home.
My older brother, who is 16 years older than I am, has some friend who is in the business. I forgot what he does. I would have to ask my brother the next time I see him. Anyway, his friend got me my Federal Signal 4050-001T pull station.
Sort of. My uncle is an electrician who, at the moment, is gutting a grocery store’s fire alarm system to install a new one (hopefully not Advances, let’s hope he installs Exceededs or GEC3/4s.) and he’s giving some of the alarms to me. (Hooray for a metric carp-ton of Spectralert Classics and Wheelock RSS’s, ceiling mount.)
No relatives. I only know a technician and my good friend’s husband works with a company that does electrical work, mostly in commercial construction sites and he has installed many alarms and worked on several panels.
