Blocked fire alarm NA in a Walmart garden center

The Grassfield Chesapeake VA Walmart still uses horn strobes, specifically Spectralert Classic horn strobes. The Hillcrest Chesapeake VA Walmart, however, uses SAFEPATH voice evac. The Sams Circle Chesapeake VA Walmart, before the severe incident, had Spectralert Advance wall mount horn strobes with some mounted on support poles with the rest mounted on walls. After the severe incident, they renovated the store. The renovations included the following:

  1. Installation of Bosch cabinet speakers outside and in the outdoor part of the garden center.
  2. Installation of Bosch ceiling speakers in rooms/areas with lower-elevated ceilings.
  3. Installation of Electrovoice pendant speakers in the store’s main room and in the indoor part of the garden center.
  4. Upgrade from the old panel, in which I do not know the brand, to a new panel that is possibly made by Honeywell.
  5. Removal of Spectralert Advances and installation of Xenon L-Series.

So to sum it up, the Sams Circle Chesapeake VA Walmart had a severe incident, closed for a very long time, got renovated, and reopened like brand new.

One more thing, the Sams Circle Chesapeake VA Walmart is now my new favorite Walmart to go to due to how interesting it is.

Here is a support beam at a local Walmart that used to have four NAs mounted to it before there was a system replacement

Four is too much… For one of those anyway.

Here is a smoke detector in the local Walmart. It is near the back restrooms.

Is the entire store covered with L-Series remote strobes and Gentex smoke detectors that have horns? That probably didn’t replace a voice evac system.

The store has L-Series horn/strobes and remote strobes throughout. That is the only visible smoke detector in the store.

Strange, it might just be the angle of the photo but it looks like that smoke detector has a horn on it. Were you able to see it up close?

Yeah, the smoke detector does have a built in horn.

It is located by a magnetic fire door. I think those doors are required by code to have smoke detectors by them.

Yeah the detector is required by NFPA 72 but the integral horn is not (unless it is used for general notification).

That specific detector has a horn built in yes, especially a majority of Gentex detectors. But some have sounder bases that have horns built in to the bases for heads to be mounted on.
