I am building a simple set up - pull station with an alarm on a wooden board - for my fire alarm obsessed 6 year old.
I have a Simplex 4251-20 pull station (conventional) connected to a Simplex 4906-9103 True Alert (strobe only, 2 wire)), powered by a 24V DC plug.
When I plug in to an electrical outlet, the notification device does not respond when the t-bar is pulled, it just flashes once when plugged in.
I am fairly certain that my wiring is correct because I connected a cheap QWORK alarm from Amazon to the pull station and it worked. Is this Simplex 4906-9103 simply not compatible?
Forgive me, I’m a newbie to this! It’s certainly been an education thus far.
That is intended behavior from the 4906-9103. It is designed to be used with special Simplex modules/panels for it to flash (to synchronize many in a building). Applying straight 24 volts will cause the behavior that you described.
I would check on-line via eBay or other means for other models, then use the Simplex Model Number Checker for a “freerun” or “selectable” model. These can run on straight 24 volts.
Most other manufacturers of equipment (System Sensor, Gentex, Wheelock) do not require any modules to operate.
Feel free to leave a message on here or send me a PM if you’d like to check a unit for compatibility, or if the model number checker doesn’t find it. =)
