I saw a thread on the massive WTC Cerberus Pyrotronics MXLV system, and am wondering what is the closest sounding panel in terms of tones and messages to the MXLV, but also the closest in general. I would want one with the closest tones and messages (particularly the slow whoop) to the MXLV, while being more affordable. It needs to be somewhat hobbyist friendly I don’t care if it is conventional or addressable, or how much zones. It also needs to be front panel field programmable. I was thinking the Notifier System 5000 might be the best bet, as it has a somewhat similar sounding slow whoop tone (based on the one video I could find of a voice System 5000), but you need a program key (but I heard that is just a certain resistor). I just want to know what other people think would be the best option. also it needs to be hobbyist friendly and front panel field programmable unlike the MXL.
The only one I’ve had personal experience with that I could offer is the Silent Knight SK-5208: it’s front keypad-programmable & quite collector-friendly, both unlike the MXL-V, & voice evac can be done with an MP3 board hooked to the panel (though you’d also have to find tones & messages to put on said board then), but it otherwise arguably has little in common with the MXL-V.
good idea but I meant factory original components, not a MP3 board
Obviously, the most similar would be its successor: the XLS. Unfortunately, that’s the complete opposite of collector friendly.
Yeah, but with a non-voice-capable panel like the SK-5208 that’d be your only option (an MP3 board is also quite easy to set up compared to some voice panels).
Yeah: Siemens in a nutshell basically.
Many higher end panels with self contained voice aren’t very collector friendly. The best solution is similar to Carson’s. Take a standard panel, and add on a voice panel that lets you record messages, like a newer safepath, or use the mp3 board.
Fire alarm systems arent made to be collector friendly. I understand Siemens’s decision to only make them and dealers be able to mess with them. How would you like if a dumb maintenance man messes with the settings in panel in a building which could hinder the safety of occupants?
Precisely: it’s kind of a shame but it’s what must be done.
I know, but as I already said on another topic you do realize that that affects building owners & technicians/service companies as much as us enthusiasts, right? (in terms of headaches & holdups) Also when it comes to that last part that’s why you design a panel to be as simple as possible to configure/program so that even the dumbest of people could do so properly (or at least that’s what proper training is for).
