Our Church has a Silent Knight SK-5208 that has no been connected to a land line. It was installed when the church was built in 2005, after the original 1878 church burnt to the ground.
That being said the church maintenance group is looking into connecting the unit. We have the manual and are baffled as to why you need two lines, which will of course cost more to install. It’s a small country church so every expense is reviewed.
I’m an IT guy and given the task of researching what’s needed. I have seen a post regarding software to program this unit, SKSS? I personally have not used this software. Also I have seen references to firmware updates.
It doesn’t appear we can just connect line 0 to 911 and be done?
Thank you in advance.
The SK-5208 was designed to transmit signals to a central station receiver over voice telephone lines. Two lines are used to better insure that an emergency signal always got through. The system transmits information such as an account number, condition and zone through tones to the receiver. If a local call center even allowed it, the system would only dial the number an then beep to the operator. Here are a couple options.
-Two land lines to a central station
-Use a cellular transmitter in place of the land lines.
-There may also be a network option

Landlines have kind of gone by the wayside in terms of fire alarm monitoring… Or really even life in general. You’ll need to reach out to an alarm monitoring vendor, but generally Cell communicators or (depending on your area) RF Radio are going to be MUCH cheaper options for your needs. Due to the nature of these technologies, there is no need for multiple methods. One radio/cell unit already has multiple paths available for communication.
I’d suggest you reach out to your local alarm companies to see what options they can provide for you. I’d avoid landlines at all costs.
